A leading engineering consultancy is seeking a Principal Structural Engineer to take a key leadership role across a diverse portfolio of technically challenging projects within their Power Sector Teams. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Chartered Structural Engineer who enjoys leading teams, providing technical direction, and delivering complex engineering solutions. The Role
Reporting into senior engineering leadership, you will play a pivotal role in driving the successful delivery of structural engineering projects while ensuring technical excellence across multiple teams and disciplines.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading structural design delivery across major projects and programmes
- Managing and developing structural engineering teams, ensuring appropriate resourcing and technical oversight
- Reviewing and approving structural calculations, drawings, specifications, reports and digital design outputs
- Acting as a technical authority, providing guidance, assurance and quality control
- Managing project programmes, budgets and commercial performance
- Supporting bids, tenders, fee proposals and technical submissions
- Reporting project progress, risks and opportunities to senior stakeholders
- Driving innovation, sustainability and buildability within structural solutions
- Promoting best practice in health, safety and project delivery
- Mentoring and developing engineers at all levels
Requirements
Applicants should possess:
- Chartered Engineer status (CEng MIStructE or CEng MICE)
- Proven experience leading structural engineering teams on complex projects
- Strong knowledge of UK structural design standards, codes and assurance processes
- Experience across a range of structural engineering disciplines, which may include:
- Steel, concrete, masonry and timber structures
- Foundations and substructures
- Structural assessment, analysis and remediation
- Site investigations
- Proficiency in structural analysis and design software, including the ability to review and validate complex models
- Strong commercial awareness, including budgeting and change management experience
- Experience working within multidisciplinary project environments
- Understanding of CDM regulations and structural safety responsibilities
- Full UK driving licence
- Eligibility to obtain UK security clearance
