About the Role:
Our client is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead the successful delivery of water and wastewater projects across their allocated regions. This is a senior leadership role responsible for client relationship management, operational performance, budget control, programme delivery, and team leadership. Reporting to the Operations Director, you will oversee a team of Project Managers and support staff, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on budget, and in line with client expectations. You will champion a "Right First Time" culture across all aspects of project delivery, maintaining the highest standards of quality, compliance, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients within your allocated region, building and maintaining strong, long-term relationships.
- Develop a detailed understanding of client requirements and project objectives to ensure successful delivery of works.
- Lead, mentor, and support a team of Project Managers and associated delivery personnel.
- Support the Operations Director with recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and development of operational staff.
- Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with agreed scope, programme, budget, and quality requirements.
- Monitor project performance through regular reviews of programme, cost, risk, and resource allocation.
- Promote and ensure compliance with the company's Integrated Management System and operational procedures.
- Collaborate with fellow Operations Managers and the Operational Conformance Manager to optimise resource utilisation and operational performance.
- Manage supplier and subcontractor relationships, including performance evaluation and selection of new delivery partners.
- Provide regular progress updates and operational reports to the Operations Director, highlighting project status, risks, and opportunities.
- Drive a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and operational excellence throughout the business.
- Ensure efficient management of personal and team workloads to achieve business objectives and delivery targets.
About You:
- Demonstrable experience delivering complex projects within the UK water and wastewater sector.
- Proven leadership experience managing multidisciplinary project delivery teams.
- Strong client-facing skills with the ability to build and maintain trusted relationships.
- Experience managing project budgets, commercial performance, and financial reporting.
- Strong planning, programming, and project controls experience.
- Engineering qualification, technical background, or significant practical site-based experience.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and influencing skills.
- Highly motivated, proactive, and capable of driving high-performance teams.
- Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities.
- High levels of integrity, professionalism, and ethical standards.
- Experience working within regulated utility, infrastructure, or environmental sectors would be advantageous.
- Chartered Engineer status would be beneficial but is not essential.
