An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Primary Design Engineer to join a well-established engineering business delivering major transmission and distribution infrastructure projects across the UK. This role will focus on the design and delivery of HV/EHV substation projects up to 400kV, working as part of a highly skilled engineering team on complex and technically challenging schemes within the power sector.
Key Responsibilities:
- Produce concept, preliminary and detailed primary design solutions for substations up to 400kV
- Develop and review general arrangement drawings, substation layouts and single line diagrams
- Carry out design calculations including busbar sizing, short circuit studies, cable sizing, lighting, lightning protection and switchroom calculations
- Prepare and review technical specifications and associated design documentation
- Conduct site surveys and liaise with project and construction teams
- Participate in hazard review meetings and promote a strong safety-by-design culture
- Ensure designs are delivered to programme, quality and client requirements
Requirements:
- Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
- Strong experience in HV/EHV substation primary plant design within the UK power sector
- Proven ability delivering complex transmission and distribution projects
- Knowledge of relevant industry standards and design practices
- Chartered Engineer status or working towards chartership would be advantageous
- CSCS or SHEA Power certification preferred
