About the role
Our client are looking to strengthen their design team with an experienced Structural Engineer to head up the Structural Design team - based on a hybrid office out of one of their key offices: Newcastle, Birmingham or Redditch. Your role will provide superior quality Engineering Design services to allow the company to minimise risks and maximise profits on turnkey and engineering services contracts. To ensure the above the individual must co-ordinate the design and produce Structural design documents and drawings taking due account of health and safety requirements, specifications and standards pertaining to the contract.
Responsibilities
- Production of structural design calculations for all aspects of Water Treatment and Sewage Treatment plants, including both new build and modifications to existing plants
- Review of structural content of construction drawings/models
- Review of subcontract design proposals
- Ensuring all work is considered for buildability, standardisation and DfMA, and for safety on site complying with CDM regulations
- Reinforced concrete and steelwork design to all relevant Eurocodes and British Standards
- Co-ordination and liaison within a multi-discipline organisation including construction oversight and site support
- Work to procedures and processes to ensure the continuing development of the discipline
- Resource planning and responsibility for project delivery within budget and programme
- Coordination of designs with other disciplines and use of resources both internal and external
- Provide support to civil design staff
- Provide support to help develop junior staff
- Ensure designs take account of environmental issues
- Assist in improving processes and procedures
Essential Skills
- Strong structural engineering design background, including technical detailing for Water Treatment and Sewage Treatment Projects
- A proven track record of leading structural engineering teams
- Good knowledge of structural analysis and ability to use Microsoft Excel and design software such as StaadPro and Tekla TEDDS
- Degree qualified in Civil and/or Structural Engineering (or equivalent)
- Membership of a relevant professional institution
- Good track record for the design of water retaining structures to construction standard using Eurocodes
- Good working knowledge of CDM and construction Health & Safety
- This role is office based but may require some travelling within the UK occasionally
- Experience of working for a global organisation
- Experience of working with remote/dispersed teams
- Experience in the Water/Wastewater Treatment Industry
- Ability to embrace collaborative and innovative working
- Knowledge of BIM procedures and techniques
- Wider experience of structural design across the construction industry
