About the Role:
Due to continued growth, we are seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer for our client, to join a well-established in-house design team delivering innovative water and wastewater treatment solutions across the UK. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role throughout the full project lifecycle, from initial scoping and optioneering through detailed design, construction support, and project implementation. Working within a multi-disciplinary environment, you will lead mechanical design activities, ensure compliance with industry standards, and contribute to the delivery of sustainable, low-carbon engineering solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead mechanical design activities across a range of water and wastewater treatment projects.
- Oversee mechanical design deliverables from project inception through to implementation and handover.
- Ensure designs comply with client specifications, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
- Coordinate design reviews, checking, and approval processes to maintain quality and consistency.
- Develop and manage mechanical design deliverables within multi-disciplinary project teams.
- Mentor and support junior engineers, helping to develop technical capability within the team.
- Prepare work scopes, design estimates, and technical quotations.
- Consider and promote health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements throughout the design process.
- Liaise with clients, contractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
- Support project change management processes and programme delivery requirements.
About You:
- Degree, HND, or HNC qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Chartered Engineer status with a relevant professional institution is desirable.
- Proven mechanical design engineering experience within the municipal water and/or wastewater treatment sector.
- Experience working within multi-disciplinary engineering design teams.
- Strong understanding of mechanical design principles and relevant industry standards.
- Experience delivering projects across all design stages, including optioneering, FEED, detailed design, construction support, and as-built documentation.
- Design management experience is highly desirable.
- Programme and financial management experience would be advantageous.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Strong communication, organisational, and stakeholder management skills.
