About the Role:

Due to continued growth and an expanding project portfolio, we are seeking an experienced Principal Electrical Design Engineer for our client to lead the delivery of electrical, instrumentation, control and automation (EICA) design solutions across a range of asset management and infrastructure projects on the United Utilities framework. This is an excellent opportunity to take a leading role throughout the full project lifecycle, from initial scoping and feasibility through detailed design, construction support, and commissioning. You will provide technical leadership, support business development activities, and help drive the delivery of innovative, sustainable, and low-carbon engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and delivery of EICA design solutions across a diverse portfolio of projects.
  • Meet with clients and stakeholders to understand project requirements and develop tailored engineering solutions.
  • Take the technical lead on bids, proposals, and framework opportunities, contributing to business growth.
  • Support the planning, coordination, and successful delivery of projects alongside project and delivery teams.
  • Oversee the production and quality assurance of EICA design deliverables.
  • Provide technical guidance and specialist expertise to project teams and senior stakeholders.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop engineers within the EICA team.
  • Support the development of future engineering talent through coaching and knowledge sharing.
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant client specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Champion sustainable engineering practices and contribute towards Net Zero objectives.

About You:

  • Degree, HND, or HNC qualified in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Professionally registered with a recognised engineering institution (IEng, CEng or equivalent).
  • Proven experience delivering EICA or electrical design projects within the water sector.
  • Strong knowledge of British and European design standards and industry best practices.
  • Demonstrable experience managing projects through design, construction, and commissioning phases.
  • Experience in pre-construction design, feasibility studies, and cost evaluation.
  • Previous people management, mentoring, or technical leadership experience.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to adapt to changing project priorities.
