Contract role to work on HS2 (Outside IR35)
We're supporting a leading international engineering consultancy in the search for a Principal Noise & Vibration Consultant to join an established specialist team working across major transport and infrastructure programmes in the UK and overseas.
This is a senior appointment offering a mix of technical leadership, client engagement, project delivery, and business development.
The successful candidate will play a key role in solving complex acoustic and vibration challenges on high-profile rail, transit, and infrastructure projects while helping shape the future growth of the discipline within the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of noise and vibration workstreams on complex infrastructure projects from concept through to delivery.
- Provide technical direction on environmental and building acoustics challenges across rail and transportation schemes.
- Lead the development of practical mitigation strategies and ensure successful integration with wider engineering designs.
- Act as a key interface between clients, project teams, contractors, and specialist stakeholders.
- Review technical outputs and provide expert guidance on modelling, assessment methodologies, and reporting.
- Support multidisciplinary teams in resolving acoustics-related risks and design issues.
- Contribute to project planning, resource allocation, and programme delivery.
- Assist with proposal preparation, tender submissions, and winning new work.
- Mentor less experienced team members and contribute to the continued development of the acoustics capability.
- Candidate Requirements
- Strong background in noise and vibration consultancy gained within infrastructure, transportation, rail, highways, or a related sector.
- Experience delivering technically complex projects and managing client expectations.
- Excellent understanding of environmental acoustics, vibration assessment, and mitigation principles.
- Comfortable operating within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality technical outputs.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Chartered status, or working towards Chartership, would be advantageous.
