Role Overview
As a Senior Electrical Design Engineer, you will play a key role in leading electrical designs for building services projects, with a particular focus on data centres, commercial buildings, and residential developments. You will take responsibility for design solutions from concept to completion, ensuring compliance with industry standards and delivering high–quality, cost–effective solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Electrical Design: Lead the design of electrical building services systems, including power distribution, UPS systems, standby generation, lighting, fire alarms, and security systems, with a focus on data centres and critical environments.
- Project Management: Manage multiple projects, ensuring delivery within budget, timeline, and to the highest technical standards.
- Technical Leadership: Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, reviewing designs and ensuring best practices are followed.
- Client Engagement: Work closely with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams to develop design solutions that meet their needs.
- Compliance & Regulations: Ensure all electrical designs comply with relevant UK regulations, including BS 7671 (18th Edition), CIBSE guidelines, and BREEAM standards.
- Site Inspections & Reports: Conduct site surveys, inspections, and audits, providing technical reports and recommendations.
- Sustainability & Innovation: Integrate energy–efficient and sustainable solutions into design projects, considering the latest industry advancements and net–zero strategies.
Required Skills & Experience
- Experience: Minimum of 5+ years in electrical building services design, with data centre project experience highly desirable.
- Qualifications: Degree or HND/HNC in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related field.
- Professional Memberships: Working towards or already holding Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with IET or CIBSE is preferred.
- Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of power distribution, LV/HV systems, UPS, generator systems, and other critical infrastructure elements.
- Software Skills: Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit (desirable), Amtech (Trimble), Dialux/Relux, and other relevant design tools.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Strong understanding of British Standards, Building Regulations, and industry best practices.
- Project & Team Leadership: Ability to take ownership of projects and provide technical leadership to junior engineers.
- Communication & Collaboration: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical solutions effectively.
