We are seeking an experienced and safety-focused Senior Project Engineer to support the successful delivery of rail infrastructure projects across the UK rail network. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong engineering professional with expertise in Overhead Line Equipment (OLE) and/or Third Rail systems to play a key role in the design, construction, testing and commissioning of major rail projects.
The successful candidate will ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and in compliance with Network Rail standards, legislation and industry best practice.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver safe, high-quality and cost-effective engineering solutions across rail infrastructure projects
- Implement Network Rail systems, engineering controls and project procedures throughout the project lifecycle
- Provide technical leadership, guidance and assurance to Project Engineers and wider delivery teams
- Monitor compliance with Railway Group Standards, Network Rail Company standards and project control procedures
- Support design, construction, testing, commissioning and site supervision activities
- Ensure all works comply with relevant legislation, including CDM regulations and environmental policies
- Carry out risk assessments, HAZOP studies and safety assurance activities
- Review contractor competence, management systems and technical delivery capability
- Undertake engineering reviews, contractor audits and compliance assessments
- Participate in accident investigations and contribute to lessons learned initiatives
- Liaise with stakeholders, contractors and regulatory bodies to support successful project outcomes
- Significant experience within Overhead Line Equipment (OLE) and/or Third Rail engineering disciplines
- Strong background in rail construction and design projects across multidisciplinary environments
- Technical qualification to HND level or equivalent in an engineering discipline
- Membership of a relevant professional institution
- Experience working within major contracting or rail infrastructure environments
- Knowledge of safety case development and project assurance processes
- Strong understanding of safety management systems and quality assurance principles
- Knowledge of independent assessment arrangements for rail works
- Experience supporting or leading accident investigations
- Six Sigma Yellow Belt certification
- Chartered Engineer status (or working towards equivalent professional recognition)
- Understanding of environmental considerations within engineering and construction projects
You will be a proactive and detail-oriented engineer with excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. A strong commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement is essential, alongside the ability to work collaboratively within complex rail project environments.
