An established engineering and environmental consultancy is looking to appoint a Senior Civil Estimator to strengthen and develop its estimating capability in line with continued growth across major infrastructure and water sector projects. This role will focus on supporting long-term framework opportunities across leading UK utilities, delivering Design & Build and Asset Health projects, as well as contributing to future industrial water opportunities.

Predominantly remote, the position offers flexibility while also providing the opportunity to visit project sites when required. You will play a key role in enhancing the resilience, capability, and performance of the estimating function.

As a Senior Civil Estimator, you will bring both technical and commercial expertise, helping shape project scope, programmes, and cost solutions that are sustainable, efficient, and aligned with client expectations.

Key responsibilities:
  • Producing detailed discipline-specific estimates, including take-offs and Bills of Quantities (BOQs)
  • Reviewing and challenging project solutions to ensure robust and accurate cost outputs
  • Collaborating with engineering, commercial, and estimating teams to develop integrated solutions
  • Managing supply chain enquiries, evaluating returns, and preparing bid comparisons
  • Compiling estimate reports and submission documentation for internal and client review
  • Supporting the transition of estimating data into project delivery teams
  • Building strong working relationships with clients and supply chain partners
  • Contributing to risk and opportunity assessments within estimates
  • Ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards
  • Capturing lessons learned and improving future estimating practices
  • Maintaining and developing cost databases, rate libraries, and cost models
  • Driving continuous improvement across estimating processes and data quality
About you:
  • Demonstrable experience in civil engineering estimating within infrastructure or utilities sectors
  • Strong knowledge of first-principles estimating and cost planning methodologies
  • Experience across multiple project stages, from early feasibility to detailed tender submissions
  • Familiarity with estimating software (ideally CCS Candy or similar)
  • Solid understanding of construction methods, design principles, and buildability
  • Ability to assess and incorporate risk and opportunity into cost estimates
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage across multidisciplinary teams
  • Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple deadlines effectively
  • Strong commercial awareness and a collaborative approach to project delivery
  • Experience within the water sector is advantageous but not essential
