My client is a growing engineering consultancy operating across the UK power and utilities sector. Due to continued project demand, they are looking to appoint an experienced Senior or Principal Cable Design Engineer to support the delivery of complex, high-value infrastructure schemes. This is a technically focused role offering the opportunity to lead, check and approve cable design work while mentoring others and contributing to wider business performance.

The Role

You will be responsible for delivering technically robust cable designs, ensuring work is right-first-time and compliant with statutory and industry standards. You’ll work closely with Project Managers and engineering teams to deliver projects safely, on programme and within budget.

  • Producing, checking and approving cable designs using industry-standard software
  • Leading technical input across projects, including design risk and constraint management
  • Ensuring compliance with CDM, statutory and industry standards
  • Reviewing and critiquing design outputs, drawings and technical notes
  • Supporting project delivery through effective planning, coordination and communication
  • Mentoring and developing less experienced engineers
  • Contributing to forecasting, resourcing and wider business delivery
  • Promoting best practice, lessons learned and continuous improvement

About You

You’ll be an experienced cable design engineer with the confidence to work autonomously while supporting and guiding others.

Essential experience

  • 3-5+ years’ experience in cable design
  • Strong background in UK power, utilities, telecoms or related infrastructure sectors
  • Proven use of CYMCAP, ELEK, Cableizer or similar tools
  • Experience delivering designs to time, cost and quality constraints
  • Ability to review, challenge and approve technical outputs

Qualifications

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering (essential)
  • Chartership or working towards (desirable)
