We are seeking a proactive and engaging Health & Safety Engagement Specialist to support the successful delivery of major rail infrastructure projects across the UK. Working closely with project teams, operational managers, and the wider Health, Safety & Environment function, you will play a key role in promoting a positive safety culture by driving workforce engagement, influencing behaviours, and embedding best practice across live rail environments. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver health and safety engagement strategies across multiple rail projects.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture through behavioural safety initiatives and workforce engagement campaigns.
  • Plan and facilitate toolbox talks, safety stand-downs, workshops, and interactive engagement sessions.
  • Coach project managers, supervisors, and frontline teams in effective safety leadership and communication.
  • Encourage the reporting of close calls, hazards, and safety observations while promoting a strong learning culture.
  • Produce engaging health and safety communications including presentations, newsletters, videos, posters, and digital content.
  • Support the implementation of behavioural safety programmes aimed at reducing incidents and improving workforce participation.
  • Analyse safety performance, engagement metrics, and workforce feedback to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Work collaboratively with Health & Safety Advisors and operational teams to ensure engagement activities complement legal compliance and project objectives.
  • Promote initiatives relating to wellbeing, mental health, fatigue management, and occupational health where appropriate.
  • Support incident reviews by helping communicate lessons learned and driving continuous improvement across projects.
  • Build strong working relationships with clients, contractors, supply chain partners, and project stakeholders to ensure a consistent approach to safety engagement.

Essential Experience

  • Experience delivering health and safety engagement, behavioural safety, or safety culture initiatives within rail, infrastructure, construction, or other safety-critical industries.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and facilitation skills.
  • Experience coaching operational teams and influencing behavioural change.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to engage people at all levels of an organisation.
  • Knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and industry best practice.
  • Experience developing engaging communication materials and safety campaigns.
  • Ability to analyse data, identify trends, and develop improvement initiatives.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience working on Network Rail, London Underground, HS2, or other major rail infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of the Common Safety Method (CSM-RA) and Rail Industry Standards.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.
  • Membership of IOSH (Working Towards, Technical, or Chartered).
  • Experience delivering Behavioural Based Safety (BBS) programmes.
  • Understanding of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM 2015).
