The Role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Biomedical Scientist to lead our main laboratory operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead day-to-day laboratory operations (processing, embedding, microtomy, staining)
- Ensure compliance with UKAS (ISO 15189), CQC, and internal standards
- Monitor and drive turnaround times and KPIs
- Supervise, train, and develop staff
- Lead on quality management, audits, and non-conformances
- Support validation, verification, and continuous improvement.
Person Specification
Essential:
- HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist
- IBMS Specialist Diploma in Cellular Pathology (or equivalent)
- Minimum 1-year post-specialist experience in a histopathology laboratory
- Strong knowledge of ISO 15189 / UKAS requirements
- Proven leadership or supervisory experience
- Ability to work in a high-throughput environment
Desirable:
- Experience in private or high-volume laboratories
- Involvement in UKAS inspections/accreditation
- Experience in service development or workflow optimisation
