We are seeking an experienced Construction Project Manager to lead the on-site delivery of grid-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and solar PV projects across Scotland. Reporting to the Head of Projects, you will be responsible for the safe, on-time, and on-budget delivery of multi-MW energy infrastructure from enabling works through to energisation and handover. Key Responsibilities

  • Project Delivery
    • Lead end-to-end construction management of grid-scale BESS and solar PV projects (typically 10 MW – 100+ MW), from pre-construction planning through to practical completion and handover.
    • Develop, maintain, and drive detailed construction programmes using Microsoft Project or equivalent scheduling tools.
    • Manage and coordinate all site-based contractors, subcontractors, and specialist suppliers.
    • Monitor and report on programme, cost, quality, and risk, implementing corrective actions as required.
    • Manage project budgets, including change control, cost reporting, and forecast-to-complete.
    • Ensure all grid connection milestones are met in alignment with network operator requirements (SSEN / NGET).
  • Health, Safety & Environment
    • Implement and enforce the project Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) management plan in line with CDM 2015 regulations.
    • Chair site safety meetings and conduct regular site inspections and audits.
    • Maintain site-wide compliance with all statutory and contractual HSE obligations.
    • Promote a proactive safety culture across all contractors and site personnel.
  • Stakeholder & Contract Management
    • Manage relationships with clients, landowners, local authorities, DNOs/TSOs, and statutory consultees.
    • Administer NEC or FIDIC contracts, managing early warnings, compensation events, and contract correspondence.
    • Coordinate with internal teams including development, engineering, legal, and finance.
    • Represent the project at progress and stakeholder meetings, providing clear and concise reporting.
  • Quality & Commissioning
    • Implement and oversee the project Quality Management Plan, including ITPs, NCRs, and as-built documentation.
    • Coordinate the commissioning and energisation programme with the client, DNO/NGET, and OEM commissioning teams.
    • Ensure all O&M handover documentation is complete, accurate, and delivered on schedule.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of construction project management experience in the energy sector.
  • Demonstrable experience delivering grid-scale BESS and/or solar PV projects in the UK.
  • Strong knowledge of UK grid connection processes, including DNO/NGET requirements and G99 compliance.
  • Proficient in construction scheduling tools (MS Project, Primavera P6, or equivalent).
  • Solid understanding of NEC or FIDIC contract frameworks.
  • CDM 2015 knowledge and experience acting as Principal Contractor or Principal Designer representative.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Full UK driving licence; ability to travel to sites across Scotland as required.
  • Experience working in Scotland, SSEN grid connection processes, and the Scottish regulatory environment.
  • BESS-specific knowledge: HV/LV electrical systems.
  • Degree or HND in Engineering, Construction Management/Project Management, or a related discipline.
  • SMSTS and CSCS card (Black or Gold).
  • Experience managing multiple concurrent construction projects.
