The predicted salary is between 23970 - 28483 £ per year.

We are looking for either an experienced HCA or an aspiring HCA who is willing to undergo training to join our well-established nursing team. Working 30 to 35 hours per week. The successful applicant will work under the direct supervision of the Nurse Team Leads at each site, which comprise of the Manor Practice, Northbourne Medical Centre and Shoreham Health Centre.

Main duties of the job:

  • Support the practice nursing team with health promotion programmes
  • Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, and BMI recording findings accurately
  • Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly
  • Undertake simple wound care, dressings, stitch removal, and other clinical tasks as required
  • Undertake venepuncture
  • Carry out ECGs as requested
  • Carry out B12 injections
  • When trained, carry out ear irrigation under the supervision of the practice nurse
  • Support the practice nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics including annual diabetes reviews (including foot checks), learning disability reviews and mental health reviews
  • Carry out NHS Health Checks
  • Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation
  • Provide support during minor operations and Gynaecological clinics as required
  • Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session
  • Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with extant guidance
  • Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice IPC policy

We are also our own Primary Care Network as Shoreham & Southwick PCN. The Partnership is highly supportive with a strong sense of team, continually striving for improving the healthcare and well-being of our registered patients.

Job responsibilities:

  • Support the practice nurse with health promotion programmes
  • Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, recording findings accurately
  • Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly
  • Undertake basic wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required
  • Support the practice nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics and dementia/mental health reviews
  • Carry out BMI checks as directed
  • Undertake venepuncture
  • When trained, administer flu vaccinations
  • When trained, carry out ear irrigation under the supervision of the practice nurse
  • Carry out ECGs as requested
  • Carry out B12 injections
  • When trained, carry out NHS Health Checks
  • When trained, carry out Smoking cessation
  • When trained, carry out learning disability health checks
  • Diabetes screening to include foot checks
  • Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation
  • Provide support during minor operations as required

Person Specification:

  • Healthcare qualification (level 3 or 4) or working towards gaining equivalent level
  • Ear syringing certification
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
  • Clear, polite telephone manner
  • Effective time management (Planning & Organising)
  • Ability to work as a team member and autonomously
