A little about myself:

I am a young lady living in Swansea. I live with chronic illness, severe fatigue, dysautonomia and sensory overload. My health fluctuates significantly and on bad days I may be bedbound, very fatigued, lightheaded, cognitively foggy, sensitive to sound and light, and have limited ability to talk or direct tasks. Because of this, the right personality and energy are extremely important to me. Although I have difficult days, I also have better days where I enjoy chatting, helping with cooking or baking, spending time with my dog and occasionally going for a drive or a quiet outing. I'm looking for someone who can comfortably adapt to both. I'm looking for a calm, kind, PA/support worker to assist me with day-to-day living due to chronic illness and disability. This role is less about "high energy care work" and more about being a calm, grounding presence who can quietly help make life more manageable when I'm unwell, while also enjoying the better days with me when I'm able to do more.

Driver required to take me out.

Male / female preferred.

Hours of work

I am currently looking particularly for weekend cover to start with the possibility of adding in one weekday.

Rate of pay.

Β£13.50

Essential:

  • Calm, gentle and emotionally steady
  • Naturally observant and able to notice what needs doing
  • Comfortable working independently without constant direction
  • Quiet and considerate in how they move around the home
  • Happy with low-conversation days
  • Comfortable sitting in silence without awkwardness
  • Able to adapt to my energy and capacity levels
  • Clean and hygienic, especially around food preparation
  • Reassuring and low pressure rather than overly energetic or intense

I do not need someone to constantly entertain me or keep conversation going. On bad days, the most supportive thing can simply be quietly helping with practical tasks while allowing me to rest.

Sometimes what helps most is simply having a calm, reassuring presence nearby. This might mean quietly getting on with household tasks, sitting close by while we watch television, reading, or simply sharing the same space without any expectation for conversation. Having someone steady and dependable around helps me feel comfortable and supported, particularly during flare days when I may have very little energy or ability to communicate. On better days, I enjoy a bit more company and appreciate someone who is happy to chat, cook or bake together, spend time with my dog, or accompany me on a drive or quiet outing.

Desirable

  • I need a calm, low-stimulation environment. I'm therefore looking for someone with a naturally steady, gentle approach who is comfortable with quieter days and able to work independently when needed.
  • The ideal person is self-aware, adaptable and able to create a calm, comfortable and reassuring environment without needing lots of instruction or social energy from me.
  • Experience with chronic illness or disability is welcome, but personality and approach are more important to me than formal experience.

I’d like support with:

  • Support around personal care
  • Meal preparation and batch cooking
  • General household help
  • Laundry and tidying
  • Dog-related help
  • Occasional errands
  • A gentle, reassuring presence during flare days
  • Accompanying me on occasional outings when I'm feeling well enough

I will need my PA to:

  • Respect and understand the importance of privacy and confidentiality.
  • Be confident, mature and have patience.
  • Be dependable and arrive on time.
  • Be friendly with an easy-going manner.
  • Be adaptable and flexible.
  • Be supportive but not take over.
  • Have business insurance on your car to take clients out.

Concerning the position

A trial period will be necessary in the first instance in the form of a six-month probationary period. Salary will be paid monthly (Annual leave is calculated on a pro rata basis). A DBS MUST be processed prior to any commencement of employment. Costs of DBS will be met by Swansea council where applicant is eligible.

There are lots of different role in care available and there are plenty of resources available to help you with the application process.
