We are currently looking for a highly motivated

Trade Compliance Specialist (part-time) based at our York office.

As the UK subject-matter expert within our Global Trade Compliance team, you will manage day-to-day UK customs operations, ensuring all import and export transactions comply with UK customs, export control and trade legislation.

You will apply global Trade Compliance policies, procedures and systems locally, working within the framework of the company’s customs authorisations.

The key responsibilities of this role will include

  • Act as the single point of contact for UK import clearances, with additional support for export shipments.
  • Provide practical import, export and export control guidance to internal stakeholders and external partners.
  • Serve as the UK link between Trade Compliance and Logistics, supporting import/export documentation preparation and management.
  • Audit customs declarations, resolve broker errors, submit post-clearance amendments and respond accurately and promptly to HMRC enquiries.
  • Maintain UK Global Tariff/HS commodity code classifications and respond to classification queries.
  • Analyse HMRC customs data, including MSS and CDS reports.
  • Maintain SAP/GTS compliance master data to process import and export transactions.
  • Oversee customs brokers, including standing customs instructions, SOPs and performance against agreed service levels.
  • Maintain customs records and supporting documentation for the statutory four-year retention period, ensuring a complete, retrievable audit trail.
  • Maintain customs authorisations, including AEO, and support customs and supply chain security programmes.
  • Maintain customs performance metrics and reports.
  • Deliver customs/export control training and guidance to Logistics, Sales Operations and other affected functions, maintaining internal work instructions.
  • Contribute to trade compliance projects, process harmonisation and system improvements, representing UK requirements and applying global standards consistently.
  • Coordinate UK customs and export control audits, supported by the wider Trade Compliance team.
  • Support the Senior Manager Trade Compliance with internal compliance reviews and risk assessments.
  • Knowledge, skills and experience required
  • Demonstrable experience in import/export operations and export controls experience, with working knowledge of logistics
  • Customs Practitioner Award, or a qualification from the Institute of Export & International Trade (IOE&IT) or equivalent (desirable)
  • Detail-oriented with good analytical and organisational skills
  • Practical experience using SAP, ideally including SAP GTS, and Microsoft Excel
  • Strong and effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Working knowledge of the Customs Declaration Service (CDS) and HMRC online services
