The Vacancy
The Alcohol & Drug Service (ADS) is a registered charity that has been transforming the lives of people affected by drugs and alcohol misuse for over 40 years.
Aspire is a partnership between ADS and Rotherham, Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust (RDaSH). It combines the strengths of both NHS provision under the leadership of a consultant with the strengths of the voluntary sector provided by ADS. The partnership has worked together for over 20 years providing Drug and Alcohol Services to our local communities. It is a forward-thinking and innovative partnership that works closely with the recovery communities it serves to provide flexible, responsive services which offer the best possible outcomes for its service users and the community it serves.
People come into services for many reasons. Once they’re in, the first step has been taken on the road to recovery, though most cannot see it at the time. One of the things that can help is to meet someone who has ‘been there’ and who has made some of those changes, someone who is living proof that there is a way out. Peer mentors share their stories with others and offer support to people beginning their recovery journeys. Offering friendship and encouragement, peer mentors play a valuable role in motivating others and helping to build social skills and contacts. Peer mentors are different from professional staff, and the focus is on building a supportive friendship. This is often the first step in building a social circle. Such a network of friends is key to recovery; friends are people who you have fun with and who will offer you support even when you are out of treatment.
We also welcome volunteers without lived experience who can spare some time to share their interests and support the reintegration of service users into their community.
NOTE: We are unable to support sponsorship visas.
Working at ADS is more than a job; it’s an investment of time to make a difference in the lives of people with substance misuse issues and their families.
This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
The ADS is an equal opportunity employer, committed to diversity. We promote the fair and equal treatment of potential and existing employees and service users.
About ADS
For over 30 years, we have delivered effective interventions in towns and cities. We’ve helped thousands of local people on the road to recovery across Humberside, Lincolnshire, and Yorkshire, as we help the national strategy on a local basis.
The Alcohol & Drug Service is a charity (Registered Charity 1108595; and a Company Limited by Guarantee, Company No. 05375809). The majority of our funding comes through contracts with statutory commissioners such as Local Authorities and the NHS, but we receive valuable income from charitable grants and individual fundraising efforts which support many of our most innovative services. We are governed by a Board of Trustees.
We ensure that the organisation is run well, and we are a part of the Investors in People scheme, a quality framework which is independently audited. We currently hold the Silver award.
But, even though we’ve been transforming the lives of people affected by drugs or alcohol misuse for over 30 years, some people may not have heard of us. This is because we always work in partnership and often deliver our services and projects which have their own names/identities.
Our Values
We believe that honesty underpins all that we do. We seek to improve our services, and in order to identify lessons, we must be honest with ourselves regarding our performance.
We believe that trust is the foundation of an effective partnership approach and that partnership is the defining characteristic of our relationship with service users, employees, and those who purchase services from us.
