Role Responsibilities
This role description outlines a position focused on establishing and maintaining infrastructure automation expertise within an organization, acting as a consultant to other teams, and ensuring proper implementation and risk management around automation practices, including setting standards, providing training, and actively participating in risk management processes.
- Subject Matter Expertise:
- Deep understanding of infrastructure automation technologies and best practices.
- Ability to advise and consult with other teams on automation implementation and optimization.
- Standards and Guidelines Development:
- Define clear standards for automation code quality, documentation, and best practices.
- Establish guidelines for the level of documentation required based on project complexity.
- Center of Excellence Support:
- Provide support to other teams facing automation challenges.
- Share knowledge and expertise within the center of excellence to foster collaboration.
- Training and Education:
- Develop and deliver training programs on automation technologies for various levels of users within the organization.
- Risk Management:
- Understand and apply I AM Risk principles to identify potential risks associated with automation.
- Assess and manage risks through appropriate company procedures and channels.
- Actively contribute to the Change Advisory Board (CAB) discussions related to risk mitigation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Automation & Configuration Management: Implement and maintain automation solutions using Ansible, specifically with a focus on Linux, Windows, and VMware environments.
- Cloud Platform Automation: Experience with automating at least one of the following cloud platforms: vCloud, AWS, and Azure.
- Containerization: Experience with Docker, Swarm, and Kubernetes technologies.
- Scripting and Code Management: Proficiency in Python development and utilizing code repositories like GitLab.
- Setting Standards and Guidelines: Establish and maintain IT automation standards and documentation for code and documentation.
- Supporting Other Teams: Provide technical support and expertise to other teams within the \”centre of excellence.\”
- Training and Mentorship: Train and mentor other members of the team on automation technologies.
- Risk Management: Understand and manage risk principles within the team, contributing to the overall risk management framework.
- CAB Contributions: Actively participate in the Change Advisory Board (CAB), identifying, assessing, and managing risks through appropriate procedures.
- General: Other duties as assigned.
Essential Skills:
- Ansible (Mandatory): Expert-level skills in Ansible configuration management.
- Python Development: Strong proficiency in Python for automation tasks.
- Code Repositories: Familiarity and experience with Git or similar code repositories.
- Cloud Platform Automation: Experience with automating on vCloud, AWS, or Azure.
- Linux, Windows, and VMware Automation: Experience with automation in these environments.
- Containerization Technologies: Experience with Docker, Swarm, and Kubernetes.
