My client is looking for a talented IT Systems Engineer to join their growing technology team. This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on infrastructure professional who enjoys working across Linux, Windows, networking and physical hardware within a highly innovative engineering environment. Working as part of a specialist infrastructure team, you'll help build, maintain and improve the systems that support advanced engineering and technical operations. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, working with cutting-edge technologies and contributing to the reliability and scalability of critical infrastructure.
The Role
As an IT Systems Engineer, you'll play a key role in supporting and developing the infrastructure that underpins advanced engineering systems. You'll work across Linux and Windows environments, physical servers, networking and specialist hardware, ensuring systems are reliable, secure and ready to support business growth. You'll collaborate closely with Infrastructure, DevOps and Engineering teams to resolve technical issues, improve operational processes and help automate infrastructure deployment and management.
Key Responsibilities
- Build, configure and maintain IT infrastructure, including physical servers, operating systems and networking equipment.
- Support Linux and Windows environments across engineering and business-critical systems.
- Troubleshoot infrastructure issues across hardware, operating systems, networking and connected devices.
- Configure and maintain network infrastructure, including managed switches, VLANs, firewalls and segmented networks.
- Support the integration of specialist hardware and bespoke technical equipment into IT environments.
- Assist with server provisioning, infrastructure deployment and system configuration.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, runbooks and operational procedures.
- Contribute to infrastructure automation and configuration management using tools such as Ansible, Terraform or similar.
- Work collaboratively with Infrastructure, DevOps and Engineering teams to deliver reliable, scalable technology solutions.
- Help improve processes through automation, documentation and continuous improvement initiatives.
About You
You'll be an experienced Infrastructure Engineer, Systems Engineer or Systems Administrator with strong technical troubleshooting skills and a passion for working in complex, hands-on IT environments. You'll enjoy working with both hardware and software, have a proactive approach to problem solving and be keen to develop modern infrastructure practices.
Skills & Experience
- Strong experience supporting Linux and Windows server environments.
- Solid background in IT Infrastructure or Systems Engineering.
- Experience working with physical servers, storage and virtualised environments.
- Good networking knowledge, including TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, managed switches and firewalls.
- Experience troubleshooting hardware, operating systems and network infrastructure.
- Familiarity with automation and configuration management tools such as Ansible, Terraform or similar.
- Ability to produce clear technical documentation and operational procedures.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively across technical teams.
Desirable Skills
- VMware or other virtualisation platforms.
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
- PowerShell, Bash or Python scripting.
- Kubernetes or container technologies.
- Server provisioning and hardware deployment.
- Experience working within engineering, manufacturing, scientific, research or industrial environments.
