The UK Hydrographic Office is a leading centre for hydrography, providing marine geospatial data to inform maritime decisions. We work with a wide range of data suppliers and partners to support maritime navigation, safety, security and marine development around the UK and worldwide.
The Source Data Receipt (SDR) team and function sits within Operations Division at the UK Hydrographic Office and are responsible for the receipt, cataloguing and distribution of most of the hydrographic and maritime data we receive – cataloguing it within the Source Data Receipt and Assessment (SDRA) GIS database for onward assessment and production activities.
In this Processor role you will assist in the ordering, receipting, indexing, cataloguing, distributing and archiving of hydrographic and maritime data. You will learn/develop Geographic Information System skills, alongside competence in other bespoke and standard software packages. The Team is uniquely placed – at the front of our production flowline, to introduce successful candidates to the data we hold and the products and services we provide to our wide range of customers.

At any time the post holder is required to be competent in at least 75% of the following. The shape of the job will vary according to the allocation of responsibilities within the whole team.
- Registering, scanning, & recording in the workflow log all Source Data – both textual and graphical.
- Ensuring all Source Data is formatted suitably for upload into the Source Data Receipt cataloguing and spatial referencing system.
- Processing a range of source data, correctly linking documents as required.
- Ordering and recording Foreign Government Charts, monitoring the charts and publication announcement database.
Note: Percentages are not included as some of the tasks above are allocated to individual A1 staff within SDR.
