Role Catering / Food Service Assistant Job Purpose To help deliver the school’s aims and objectives by assisting in the preparation and serving of attractive, healthy, varied meals for students, staff and visitors.
Accountable to: Head Chef Accountabilities 1. Assist Cooks / Chefs in Charge in food preparation and other related duties in a safe and hygienic manner.
2. Undertake service of the correct portions of food and beverages at the designated times to staff, pupils and visitors in a professional, polite and efficient manner.
3. Assist with service at school functions and events.
4. Wash up crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils, ensuring a high degree of cleanliness is maintained.
5. Undertake daily and periodic cleaning of catering and dining areas and equipment, ensuring accurate records are maintained where necessary.
6. During school holiday periods, undertake more thorough cleaning of all catering areas as directed by the Head Chef/ Catering Manager.
7. Assist with the unloading and movement, and correct storage of food goods and stores, ensuring HACCP checks e.g., temperature checks, are undertaken and recorded; informing the Cook / Chef in Charge of any irregularities.
8. Report defects, maintenance requirements, damage or other concerns immediately to the Cook / Chef in Charge to ensure that they can be dealt with promptly.
9. Update catering skills and knowledge of food hygiene, food allergens and catering health and safety through appropriate in-service and external training programmes as required.
10. Adhere to safe working practices and ensure that instructions given during training, by the Chef / Cook in Charge, manufacturers, suppliers etc are adhered to.
General requirements All school staff are expected to:
a. Work towards and support the school vision and the current school objectives outlined in the School Development Plan. b. Contribute to the school’s programme of extra-curricular activities. c. Support and contribute to the school’s responsibility for safeguarding students. d. Work within the school’s health and safety policy to ensure a safe working environment for staff, students and visitors e. Work within the GDST’s Equal Opportunity Policy to promote equality of opportunity for all students and staff, both current and prospective. f. Maintain high professional standards of attendance, punctuality, appearance, conduct and positive, courteous relations with students, parents and colleagues. g. Engage actively in the performance review process. h. Adhere to applicable GDST policies. i. Undertake other reasonable duties related to the job purpose required from time to time.
