We’re looking for a skilled and experienced Software Engineer to join our IT BTG Claims team, helping to develop, enhance and support our core claims systems. IT Delivery is made up of small teams that are inclusive, open, and collaborative. We encourage team members to share ideas, solutions and decision making to drive forward the effectiveness of the teams and products that we deliver.
Main Duties
- Development and publication of changes to the core GW ClaimCenter platform.
- Development of technical solutions with adherence to relevant technologies and coding standards.
- Implementation and execution of thorough unit testing and version control.
- Adherence to Agile Scrum methodology.
- Working directly with the Product Owner and business to develop solutions to support the product roadmap.
- Identify opportunities for knowledge transfer and provide, where appropriate.
- Ensuring the software delivered is performant, secure and scalable.
- Code reviewing/monitoring coding standards.
- Feed into Claims Strategy and initiatives to drive improvements in our technology, tools, and ways of working.
- Understanding of emerging technologies and their suitability to business demands.

Experience Required
Essential
- Commercial experience developing with Guidewire Products version 10 (ideally ClaimCenter).
- Knowledge of database concepts and SQL.
- Experience of implementing and consuming SOAP or RESTful web services.
- Willingness to undertake training to upskill on our Guidewire platform and technologies.
- Ability to creatively think around a brief and challenge it if necessary.
- Thorough knowledge of all relevant coding languages.
- Understanding of Agile Scrum methodology and practices.
- Prioritisation and time management skills to hit deadlines.
- Confidence to communicate ideas effectively to peers, seniors, and management.
- Ability to produce quality documentation as necessary.
- Able to transfer knowledge between other members of the team.
- A focus on continuous improvement.
Desirable
- Knowledge of the Java Hibernate, web services Spring frameworks/libraries.
- Proven knowledge of Java design patterns and Object Oriented Design.
- Experience of developing applications using Spring Boot.
- Experience of working with Cloud technologies such as Azure and GCP.
- Experience working with AI agents for engineering, Claude CLI, GitHub Copilot etc.
- Experience with containerisation products such as Kubernetes and Docker.
- Familiar with build tools such as Maven or Ant.
- Knowledge of version control systems such as Git or SVN.
- An appreciation of CI/CD concepts and using tools such as Jenkins and Ansible.
- Experience of deploying to and configuring web servers such as Tomcat, JBoss or Apache.
- Basic understanding of networking concepts such as load balancing, firewalls, resiliency, reverse proxies etc.
- Experience of performance testing using tools such as JMeter.
