As a Senior IT Business Analyst, you'll lead and shape analysis on complex, high-impact projects and programmes from pre‑inception to successful delivery across the Strategic Change Portfolio and IT. This role is pivotal in supporting the organisation in achieving strategic goals through bridging the gap between business needs and technical solutions. This will be done through effective business analysis that adheres to best‑practice and Admirals governance and change controls.
As well as business analysis activities, where you will have a key role in bridging the gap between business need and technical solutions, you will also have a central role in the continued development and evolution of the business analysis team within Admiral through leading by example and coaching Business Analysts in all aspects of project delivery. Your expertise in business analysis within complex IT environments and coaching will ensure the successful delivery of our most significant projects, while supporting the continued evolution and development of Business Analysis at Admiral.

Main Duties- Project Delivery and Execution
- Lead analysis at pre‑inception to support the business assess their problem statements, opportunities and feasibility of new ideas to help support investment requests.
- Engage and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels across business and technology to elicit, analyse, validate and manage business and technical requirements.
- Define project scope, deliverable and success criteria for technical and business change.
- Translate business needs into clear, actionable requirements, user stories, use cases and functional specifications as appropriate.
- Track, monitor and report on analysis outcomes and agreed KPIs to ensure that project delivery meets their expected value and outcomes.
- Carry out BA activities across the delivery lifecycle, with the ability to select the most appropriate tool from our BA toolkit to execute.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with Architecture teams to determine optimal solution based on business need.
- Collaborate with Architecture and delivery teams to determine optimal solutions based on business needs.
- BA Leadership and Coaching
- Lead by example, ensuring that analysis is best‑in‑class, both in terms of what is delivered and how, particularly within complex IT environments.
- Support and coach Business Analysts, providing guidance and mentorship, either in 121 sessions or through team meetings or knowledge transfer sessions.
- Support Business Analyst Leads in the dissemination of best‑in‑class business analysis capabilities, championing excellence in the team and across the business.
- Support Business Analyst Leads to drive and ensure consistency in business analysis, with a real focus on performance and key KPIs.
- Metric and Performance
- Accountable for shaping analysis that directly informs investment decisions, solution direction and delivery outcomes for strategically significant change.
- Support the development of a culture within the business analysis team that focuses on delivering value rather than process, through identifying and challenging the status quo.
- Deliver process changes that enhance efficiency and effectiveness of business analysis, and support Business Analysts to do likewise.
- Contribute to lessons learned and ensure these are disseminated, shared and acted upon across the Business Analyst team.
- Substantial experience leading business analysis across large‑scale, complex IT and business change, including end‑to‑end technical delivery.
- Strong understanding of Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and change delivery methodologies, with experience working across agile, waterfall and hybrid environments.
- Experience of business analysis across the delivery lifecycle and across various technology solutions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with stakeholders at all levels across business and technical roles.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and the confidence to challenge constructively.
- Proven ability to translate complex business needs into clear, actionable requirements.
- Confident in leading workshops to elicit requirements, frame problem statements, guide decision‑making and present analysis with stakeholders at all levels.
- Proficient in creating detailed analysis documentation (e.g. Lean UX canvas, business case, BPMN process models, BRD’s, user stories, functional specifications etc).
- Experience supporting testing activities, including defining acceptance criteria, clarifying requirements, and reviewing test cases.
- Experience collaborating with Architecture, Developers, QA, Engineering and Delivery teams to support end‑to‑end delivery.
- Experience working with third‑party vendors, including supporting RFI/RFP activity, supplier selection and evaluating proposals.
- Comfortable contributing to commercial discussions, contract considerations and procurement or vendor‑management processes.
- Exposure to regulated environments or high‑risk change, with an understanding of governance and control frameworks.
- Confident using tools such as Teams, SharePoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, JIRA, MIRO, Copilot and Confluence as minimums.
- Strong commercial acumen.
- Coaching and mentoring of other Business Analysts experience within a complex IT environment.
- At least 4-5 years’ experience in a Senior Business Analyst role within IT.
- Experience of leading analysis within a Regulated environment, Financial Services and specifically Insurance is desirable.
- Proficient in business analysis tools and methodologies.
- Relevant professional qualifications: IIBA, BCS, or equivalent (e.g. ECBA, CCBA, CBAP, BCS foundation etc).
- Experience in uplifting BA maturity, including developing BA templates, processes, standards, and ways of working.
- Formal Coaching or Mentoring qualification.
This is a hybrid role, with an expectation to attend the Ty Admiral Cardiff office once per month for local employees, and once per quarter for remote colleagues.
