We are looking for an enthusiastic and inquisitive Platform Engineer, who can think creatively to solve problems and meet technical requirements. You will be responsible for implementing and maintaining our cloud-based infrastructure along with the CI/CD Pipelines. You must have a keen interest in cloud engineering and be ready to research and learn new tools, technologies and patterns as required. The Platform Engineer is responsible for fulfilling their objectives, actively seeking to improve their technical and other knowledge skills focusing on CI/CD and Cloud engineering. The Platform Engineer learns to embody the core cultural values at the heart of Admiral's success. The Platform Engineer will take a collaborative approach consisting of agile practices, processes, and procedures designed to facilitate rapid IT service and product delivery. Platform Engineering emphasises people (and culture) and seeks to reduce cognitive load, improve standardisation, and automation by providing a curated set of self-service tools, capabilities, and processes.
Main Duties
- Platform Engineering & Enablement: Deliver, and maintain Infrastructure as Code solutions using Terraform, enabling scalable, secure environments. Manage and deploy application workloads to GKE clusters using Helm charts, supporting best practices in workload isolation and service configuration. Create and maintain support documentation, diagrams, and knowledge bases for platform components. Supporting and maintaining existing solutions and identifying/remediating technical debt.
- Observability & Troubleshooting: Ensure observability is embedded across all layers of the infrastructure stack, enabling proactive alerting, monitoring, and root cause analysis. Implement tooling to enhance visibility, debugging, and response times for platform services. Collaborate with teams to ensure logs, metrics, and traces are appropriately captured and visualised. Ensuring deliverables adhere to our alerting, monitoring, and logging strategy.
- Standardisation & Process Improvement: Applying specific quality standards to all tasks undertaken to ensure that deliverables are accurate and complete. Having a passion for learning best practices for Cloud Engineering. Applying agreed standards and tools as required, to achieve a well-engineered result.
- Automation & CI/CD: Develop and support CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps (or equivalent tools), promoting automation across delivery pipelines. Contribute to GitOps practices and infrastructure automation through version-controlled, testable configurations.
- Collaboration & Communication: Document work clearly and consistently to ensure long‑term sustainability and shared understanding. Reviewing other engineers code ensuring adherence to standards. Contributing to improvements of our technical excellence and ways of working within Squad, Chapter and Guild forums.
Experience Required
- Technical Expertise: Experience of managing Infrastructure as Code using Terraform. Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and managed Kubernetes (GKE). Working knowledge of CI/CD concepts and experience with tools like Azure DevOps. Proficient in using Git and version control practices. Scripting skills (e.g. Bash, Python) to build automation and tooling. Understands deploying workloads using Helm charts and managing container infrastructure. Knowledge of GitOps tools (e.g. ArgoCD). Knowledge of Service Mesh technologies (e.g. Anthos). Exposure to monitoring, logging, and observability tooling (e.g. Prometheus, Grafana, GCP Operations Suite).

Problem Solving: Identifies platform bottlenecks and works to resolve them through tooling and process improvements. Adaptability & Curiosity: Stays up to date with infrastructure trends and is comfortable learning new tools and patterns.
