This is a senior role within EUI Finance at Admiral reporting to the EUI CFO. The role is focused on managing the UK Finance Financial Accounting and Controls team to deliver the financial accounting and reporting for the UK insurance intermediary.
Main Duties
- Lead and manage the UK Insurance Financial Accounting and Controls team (a team including qualified accountants and trainee accountants) to help deliver finance function objectives.
- Ensuring that the accounting processes are effectively controlled, and that a strong financial control environment is maintained within the UK Insurance intermediary.
- Maintaining the integrity of the financial ledgers and data sources along with monthly close processes and production of management accounts in compliance with appropriate accounting standards.
- Developing a good understanding of the activities of the business and maintaining strong working relationships with stakeholders across the entire business in order to maintain and improve reporting lines and internal control procedures.
- Consolidation of EUI results for reporting to the group finance team ensuring compliance with relevant group accounting policies along with statutory reporting requirements.
- Developing accounting and control processes as necessary following changes to existing products / implementation of new products.
- Managing the required regulatory returns for the UK intermediary business and VAT return.
- Oversight and management of cash balances and ensuring compliance with regulatory and group liquidity requirements along with cash flow forecasting and reporting.
- Working closely with the finance transformation team to deliver the implementation of a new financial accounting software package and driving continuous improvement in future phases to enhance financial control and processes.
- Management and fulfilment of internal requirements with risk and internal audit departments as well as external audit as part of statutory reporting processes.
- Work effectively as part of the finance leadership team to support the business and enable the wider finance team to add value and support strategy.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Five or more years of post qualification experience with a recognised accountancy qualification and a strong academic background.
- Experience working within Financial Services.
- Strong working knowledge of IFRS and insurance accounting, experience of accounting processes and a strong understanding of financial controls.
- Excellent team management and leadership skills and experience in developing and coaching a team to improve performance and aid career development.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills and ability to apply commercial insight to enhance understanding of financial accounting and reporting.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships and communicate effectively with a broad range of stakeholders including senior management.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- A background within General Insurance.
- Ability to challenge and direct change to continuously improve processes and controls.
