Job Purpose

The Fertiliser Trader is responsible for developing profitable fertiliser sales across retail and wholesale channels, with a key focus on leading the growth strategy for the Liquid Fertiliser product line.

The role will also seek to develop sales volume, revenue and margin from new and innovative fertiliser products within the portfolio, while supporting the National Fertiliser Manager across the broader portfolio assisting with sales, pricing and customer enquiries.

Fertiliser Trader

The Fertiliser Trader is responsible for developing profitable fertiliser sales across retail and wholesale channels, with a key focus on leading the growth strategy for the Liquid Fertiliser product line.

The role will also seek to develop sales volume, revenue and margin from new and innovative fertiliser products within the portfolio, while supporting the National Fertiliser Manager across the broader portfolio assisting with sales, pricing and customer enquiries.

The role will manage and develop customer relationships, identify new commercial opportunities and work closely with colleagues, suppliers and customers to support the successful delivery and growth of ADM Agriculture’s liquid, solid and speciality fertiliser portfolio.

  • Main Responsibilities
  • To lead and deliver the growth strategy for the liquid fertiliser product line, developing sales volume, revenue and margin across retail and wholesale channels.
  • To identify and develop opportunities for new and innovative fertiliser products within the portfolio, supporting successful commercial launch and customer adoption.
  • To support the National Fertiliser Manager with day-to-day fertiliser sales, pricing and customer enquiries across the retail and wholesale solid and liquid fertiliser portfolio, working at all times within agreed position parameters and trading standards.
  • To generate profitable opportunities and margin across fertiliser markets and develop the ADM Agriculture fertiliser business across the UK.
  • To attend and assist in supplier and product strategy meetings with the National Fertiliser Manager when required.
  • To communicate relevant UK and global fertiliser market trends, product developments and commercial opportunities to customers and the farm trading teams.
  • To manage and develop business, building strong relationships with existing accounts and supporting the securing of business with new accounts.
  • To hold regular customer meetings and provide commercial support to accounts as required.
  • To work closely with the National Fertiliser Manager and the wider Fertiliser team to ensure the smooth execution of all retail and wholesale fertiliser business.
  • To expand ADM’s specialist products and innovative fertiliser range, including opportunities linked to the ADM regenerations programme.
  • To represent the company at relevant corporate events, customer meetings and agricultural shows.
  • To deal promptly and effectively with any customer complaints or issues as they arise.
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties and responsibilities, aligning with the role, as may be required from time to time to support the effective operation of the department and business.

Skills, Abilities & Experience

  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to utilise these to make correct and profitable trading decisions.
  • To fully understand the contractual obligations and contracts that govern the markets that are being traded.
  • Driven and enthusiastic about career growth, taking ownership of personal development and opportunities.
  • High level of commercial awareness, focused on making profitable business decisions and growing sales volume, revenue and margin.
  • Commercial understanding of fertiliser markets and the ability to develop customer propositions for solid, liquid and innovative fertiliser products.
  • FACTS qualified (or working towards) with strong technical knowledge of fertiliser products and applications.
  • Must be able to work to tight deadlines.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills, with the ability to converse effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Strong IT skills for use of Microsoft packages, particularly Excel, and bespoke systems.
  • Attention to detail and a proactive approach to taking ownership and fulfilment of duties.

  • To undertake daily tasks in line with requirements of the Company’s Environmental Management System (EMS).
  • Seek and provide ideas to improve company performance in accordance with the EMS.
