Area Health and Safety Manager UK

We are seeking an Area H&S Manager UK to partner with regional and local leadership teams in driving a strong and sustainable safety culture, ensuring regulatory and corporate compliance, delivering continuous risk reduction across multiple business units and manufacturing sites.

Your Responsibilities

  • Provides strategic Health, Safety & Process Safety Leadership. Act as the senior H&S leader and trusted business partner to the Regional Operations Director UK, UK Country Manager, and site leadership teams across all Oilseeds & Milling operations and, when required, all UK business units. Lead the implementation of standardized ADM Health & Safety and Process Safety programs, ensuring compliance with corporate standards and local regulatory requirements while establishing a sustainable, high‑performance safety culture focused on Serious Injury & Fatality (SIF) prevention, continuous risk reduction, and achievement of regional safety objectives.
  • Lead and coordinate the UK Area H&S organization, providing strategic, technical, and managerial direction to a network of 2‑5 direct‑line and 5–10 dotted‑line H&S/HSE professionals and Process Safety contacts across multiple locations. Drive collaboration, personal development, and best‑practice sharing, while partnering closely with Location Process Safety Professionals to strengthen risk management, operational excellence, and consistent execution of safety initiatives throughout the region.
  • Lead the monitoring, analysis, and reporting of Health, Safety, and Process Safety performance across the region, driving accountability and implementing corrective and preventive actions to achieve continuous improvement and world‑class safety performance.
  • Provide expert guidance and hands‑on support to site leadership teams on major incident investigations, SIF/potential SIF events, Process Safety Tier 1 & 2 incidents, regulatory compliance, risk management, and capital projects, ensuring safety considerations are embedded from design through execution.
  • Represent the region during compliance audits, assessments, and regulatory authority interactions, and advise management on emerging risks, compliance obligations, and strategic safety priorities.
  • Build organizational capability and strengthen the regional safety culture by coaching and developing H&S and Process Safety professionals, supporting leadership onboarding, delivering training programs, and establishing sustainable systems focused on risk reduction, operational discipline, and performance excellence.
  • Lead and sponsor regional H&S and Process Safety initiatives and continuous improvement projects, developing standards, procedures, and training materials aligned with corporate and regulatory requirements while fostering collaboration and strong stakeholder relationships across the organization.
  • Champion ADM's core values and Performance Excellence principles, driving engagement, accountability, structured management systems, and a culture of safety, integrity, teamwork, and operational excellence.

Your Profile

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Safety Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Science, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience and expertise.
  • Significant experience in Health & Safety or Leadership roles within a high‑risk industrial, manufacturing, process, or operational environment.
  • Proven ability to lead, influence, and develop both direct and matrix teams, supported by formal leadership and change management training.
  • Demonstrated experience leading audits, major incident investigations, root cause analyses, and the implementation of sustainable corrective and preventive actions.
  • Strong track record of driving safety culture transformation and embedding behavioral and operational safety excellence across multiple sites.
  • Advanced knowledge of Process Safety Management, including hazard analysis methodologies, explosion prevention, combustible dust risks, process hazard assessments (PHA), and major accident hazard regulations (e.g., Seveso).
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making capabilities, with the ability to translate complex risks into practical business solutions.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and influencing skills, with the credibility to engage effectively at all organizational levels, from frontline teams to senior executives.
  • Proven project and program management experience, including the successful delivery of cross‑functional and multi‑site initiatives.
  • Results‑oriented leader with a passion for continuous improvement, operational excellence, and delivering measurable business outcomes.
  • High level of cultural awareness with experience working across diverse teams and organizational structures.
  • Flexible and adaptable, with the willingness to travel frequently across the UK and occasionally internationally.
