The Structural Cardboard Designer will report directly to the Retail Solutions Design Manager and work with our internal teams across Europe. They will be designing Corrugate POS that meets the client’s budgets and retail requirements. This will include taking briefs from the AMs and or clients directly and then producing sketches, 3D visuals and full specification technical drawings. They will work alongside the other members of the design team, as well as the retail project manager, and our supply chain to make sure that the project progresses successfully through to prototype and production rollout.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with the account managers and the production team at the initial stages of briefing to create concepts and ideations based on the project briefs
- Taking the chosen designs to the technical phase and working on product load-ups and weight restrictions
- Understand the project requirements and help guide options and material insight to drive cost-effective and alternative solutions
- Ensure design timings are met and keep the design manager and project manager updated
- Work alongside our innovations manager to ensure that we include insight and innovation into our design proposals
Productivity, Process & Implementation
- Design and develop Point of Sale (POS) solutions to meet the clients’ requirements and budget using 3D visuals and sketch work
- Using client-supplied creative or brand style guides, place fit and scale artwork to the concepts created
- Create innovative solutions to clients’ briefs considering production quantities and the best manufacturing techniques to meet the noted budget
- Keep up to date with the latest technology, materials, and processes to ensure the display is produced efficiently while fulfilling any specific client environmental and social responsibility requirements
- Convert conceptual designs into technical drawings suitable for manufacture
- Support the quality control process during manufacture via supplier visits or through video calls
- Conduct and check quality reports on all units that are manufactured before delivery to the end user
- Liaising with factories where necessary to ensure accurate briefing and quality expectations are understood
Client Experience & Relationships
- Take detailed briefs directly from the client
- Confidently present designs to clients that meet their brief requirements and budget
- Be seen as a design expert in POS
- Discuss the latest trends and innovations confidently with the client
- Guide the client on sustainable design
- Build efficiency into design to reduce cost and deliver savings, without jeopardising the quality
- Designing to budget while maximizing the effectiveness of each solution
Skills and Experience
- Experience in designing in the Temporary and Semi Perm point of purchase industry
- Strong understanding of all thicknesses and grades of corrugate and their weight thresholds, along with their limitations and best practices for corrugate displays
- Knowledgeable in all different types of print production methods (Offset, flex, digital, etc.)
- Ability to build in special finishing techniques (ex, lug ons, hot foil stamping, lights, spot gloss, etc.)
- Coordinate 3D renderings to ensure all graphics wrap as needed and are not being cut off or hidden while the display is built
- Proficient in Solidworks to produce 3D renders
- Knowledgeable of ArtiosCAD or similar software to produce technical drawings
- Confident skills and experience in Adobe Illustrator, Indesign, and Photoshop
- Competent skills in using Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel to be able to report to account team
- Excellent sketching ability to communicate design ideas to presentational standards
- Able to work on own initiative as well as in a team
- Experience working with European retailer’s design guidelines (desirable)
- A degree in a 3D design subject (desirable)
