EMEA Commercial Finance Manager – Hybrid (London)

Description

As a Commercial Finance Manager, you will serve as a strategic partner to client services teams. Your role will focus on challenging and driving the operational teams to optimise financial performance and improve efficiencies using financial and operational systems. Managing and controlling the financial performance for a single or small group of key blue-chip clients; owning the internal and external forecasting and reporting processes for the client accounts; and developing and coordinating relevant financial and risk analysis to drive good decision making.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Commercial: Responsible for monthly internal management reporting for designated client accounts, encompassing metrics such as volumes, profitability, savings, working capital, cash flow, KPIs, risks, opportunities, trends, variances, and reconciliations to underlying accounting records. Support business initiatives by aiding in the development of profit improvement plans for each client account and facilitating actions to enhance performance. Collaborate with operational teams to establish annual client account plans and corresponding annual financial forecasts, monitoring progress against projections and generating monthly reforecasts. Actively participate in negotiating new contractual and commercial terms, including contract amendments, renewals, and preparation of associated financial analysis, while liaising with the internal legal team as needed.
  2. Client: Responsible for producing external management reports tailored for client review, encompassing detailed analysis of spend, spend profile, working capital, KPIs, risks, opportunities, trends, and variances. Actively participate in client review meetings to deliver comprehensive presentations on financial performance and strategic insights. Serve as the primary escalation contact for addressing and resolving credit control inquiries and issues with clients, ensuring effective communication and resolution.
  3. Process: Support the governance of operational systems used by account teams, ensuring proper utilisation, interface with accounting systems, and capability to deliver comprehensive reporting to the business. This includes overseeing functions related to sales, sales orders, cost of goods sold, and working capital movements. Ensure adherence across account teams to group-wide processes and authority limits, including procedures for foreign exchange and VAT compliance.
  4. People: Work closely with operational teams to interpret financial information and enhance their comprehension of the financial consequences of business decisions. Additionally, collaborate within the broader finance team to ensure comprehensive financial oversight across the entire organisation.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Qualified Accountant – preferred.
  • Financial, Commercial or Accounting experience
  • Experience of the retail sector and an outsourcing environment highly advantageous
  • Good IT skills (knowledge of Sage and strong Excel and data manipulation skills)
  • Honest, accountable and self-driven – comfortable working under time pressure
  • Confident with good communication skills
  • Customer focused with innovative and challenging approach
