We are seeking an experienced Commercial Manager with strong expertise in NEC contract management to lead commercial activities across major utility infrastructure programmes. The ideal candidate will demonstrate deep knowledge of the utilities sector—covering water, energy, or wider infrastructure—and will be responsible for maximising commercial performance, managing risk, and ensuring compliance with NEC contract standards across the Water Engineering solution group.
Contract & Commercial Management
- Lead the commercial administration of NEC3/NEC4 contracts, including ECC, PSC, and subcontract arrangements.
- Manage contract drafting, negotiation, change control, early warnings, compensation events, and dispute avoidance.
- Ensure full compliance with contract conditions, governance frameworks, and regulatory requirements.
Financial & Performance Management
- Own project commercial performance, including forecasting, cost control, cash flow management, and budget compliance.
- Produce accurate monthly commercial reporting (CVRs, cost/value reconciliations, earned value metrics).
- Identify opportunities for cost savings, revenue enhancement, and commercial optimisation.
Risk & Opportunity Management
- Lead commercial risk identification, assessment, mitigation, and reporting processes.
- Advise project teams on commercial implications of project decisions and strategic direction.
- Ensure proactive management of compensation events and variations to protect commercial outcomes.
Stakeholder & Supplier Engagement
- Work closely with project managers, engineers, planners, and finance teams to deliver integrated project performance.
- Manage supplier and subcontractor relationships, including procurement, tender evaluation, and contract award.
- Resolve commercial and contractual queries from clients, consultants, and supply chain partners.
Governance & Assurance
- Support internal and external audits, ensuring strong commercial governance and record‑keeping.
- Implement best practice NEC processes across project teams, including training and mentoring.
Qualifications
- Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Engineering, or related field (preferred).
- Professional membership (RICS, ICES, CIHT, APM or equivalent) advantageous.
- NEC accreditation essential.
- NEC3/NEC4 accreditation (e.g., ECC Supervisor, Project Manager, or advanced NEC training).
- Significant commercial management experience within the utilities, water, energy, or infrastructure sectors.
- Strong financial literacy and experience in cost management, forecasting, and performance reporting.
- Proven ability to manage large‑scale projects (£5m–£100m+).
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Demonstrable experience in dispute avoidance and resolution.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving capability.
