The EC&I Technician will be primarily based in the office, participating in the day-to-day operations of assigned projects, including process and electrical design, instrumentation & equipment selection. This will also include assisting with preparation & conducting system inspections (FATs) with customers in attendance, and assisting with onsite commissioning (SATs) and varied tasks at times, requiring travel to the customer site.

More about the role:

  • Support the Electrical Design Engineer, delivering timely and accurate electrical design documentation and drawings to support procurement and fabrication.
  • Review the designs to ensure they align with engineering principles, meet company standards, and fulfil customer contract requirements, along with any relevant specifications.
  • Participate in activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling, and resolving engineering design and test problems.
  • Read P&ID, Technical Drawings, Wiring Diagrams, Instrument Hook-ups, and Control Philosophy documents.
  • Assist in preparing process control documentation for review/approval, including I/O schedules, Cause and Effect, Sequence Diagrams, and Test Schedules.
  • Contribute to designs, HMI displays, programming, and commissioning industrial control systems (PLCs).
  • Propose suitable switch gear components within control panels & instrumentation for the process.
  • Produce BoM’s & request quotations for review by peers, leading to placement of Purchase Order requests.
  • Selection of Cables, Cable Glands, and Electrical Containment.
  • Develop/maintain knowledge & understanding of Quality (BS EN ISO 9001:2015), Environmental (BS EN14001:2015), Safety (ISO 45001:2018), and Explosive Atmospheres (ISO/IEC 80079-34).
  • Develop skills with design systems and associated software to perform required tasks.
  • Any other duties for which the EC&I Technician is experienced and qualified and capable of undertaking that will add value, at the request of the Line Manager or other Senior Management.

Qualifications:

  • Committed to a career in the Electrical Engineering Profession.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Sound knowledge of IT, including use of Microsoft applications.
  • Awareness & understanding of Quality, Environmental, Safety & Explosive Atmospheres Standards & working procedures.
  • Use of design software (AutoCAD LT).
  • Understanding of controllers, PLCs, and VSDs.
  • Ability to perform related administration tasks.
  • Ability to work independently & as part of a team.
  • Possess good time management skills, being punctual and organised.
  • Knowledge of the Petrochemical industry, ATEX Requirements, or similar Engineering environment is an advantage.
