We are seeking ambitious Project Planners to support the delivery of Core Services within the PMO team, underpinning the overall PMO service offering and providing core support to the wholesale business. Work with the Senior Planning Manager and/or the Senior Project Controller, as well as contractors, to produce and maintain an efficient and deliverable Project Schedule, and monitor and report performance against it. This includes review of Client Project‑level programmes and Contractor Work Package schedules.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Produce Client Project‑level and Contractor Work Package‑level optimised schedules, aligned with the required project structure (WBS / RBS / OBS / RBS / CBS) and level of detail appropriate for the commercial model and lifecycle phase as well as UK frameworks and approaches for programme optimisation.
  • Produce programmes as necessary to coordinate works between work packages and contractors, ensuring give‑gets are clearly recorded and monitored/reported.
  • Evaluate optimised programme/project schedule progress and performance, identifying developing problem areas and proactively managing and supporting the implementation of solutions.
  • Clearly articulate how the critical path can change, the impact on other parts of the schedule, and communicate this proactively.
  • Assess and respond to trends and change, ensuring agreed changes to the baseline are implemented in a timely manner.
  • Establish a robust forecasting process and ensure regular reviews with all contributing parties that make up the overall WBS.
  • Review contractors programmes and make comments as appropriate, ensuring they comply with strategic programmes in line with the required Project Structure.
  • Monitor the progress of works on site against key milestones and report progress in accordance with the monthly cycle.
  • Report on adequacy of time risk allowances and any erosion due to events.
  • Report schedule metrics for Earned Value Management (EVM).
  • Support the Project Manager regarding all issues relating to schedule.

Qualifications Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Strong experience in Programme Controls / Planning / Programme Optimisation.
  • Strong knowledge of design and build techniques, methods and durations.
  • Strong understanding of techniques for project planning and other facets of project controls.
  • Strong knowledge of Primavera and similar planning software.
  • Strong knowledge of integrated project planning.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills to build and manage relationships within associated PMO services and wider business functions.
  • Ability to constructively challenge stakeholders regarding task‑owned activities to ensure data integrity.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to “deep dive” into planning.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with sub‑contractors and think creatively to resolve issues.
  • Ability to present facts clearly and simply.
  • Creative thinker with the ability to identify issues, raise concerns, offer suggested solutions and adapt to change.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with others to develop integrated programmes.
  • Ability to present information to senior management.
  • Recognised PM / Project Controls qualification.
  • Experience in the Utilities / Water sector.
