Assess, diagnose and treat adults with ADHD in our London office.

A full-time, in-person role for an experienced nurse independent prescriber, ideally with a mental health nursing background, combining comprehensive ADHD assessments with private prescribing and ongoing care.

The Opportunity

ADHD Simple aims to make ADHD assessment and treatment straightforward, timely and centred on the patient.

We are looking for an ADHD Assessor and Nurse Independent Prescriber to join our UK service full time, based in our London office and delivering in-person clinical appointments.

You will take responsibility for your own adult ADHD caseload, from comprehensive assessment and diagnostic formulation through to treatment planning, private prescribing, medication titration and ongoing review, within your demonstrated competence and our clinical governance arrangements.

This role combines assessment and prescribing.

Applicants must hold an appropriate independent prescribing qualification recorded on the NMC register and demonstrate the specialist training and competence required for adult ADHD diagnosis and medication management.

  • Job Details
  • Location: based in our London office, delivering in-person clinical appointments.
  • Hours: full time; working pattern and exact hours to be agreed.
  • Salary: to be agreed.
  • Scope: adult ADHD assessment, diagnosis, private prescribing, titration and follow-up.
  • Assessment and Diagnosis
  • Conduct comprehensive adult ADHD assessments in person, including clinical and psychosocial assessment, developmental and psychiatric history, relevant collateral information and mental state assessment.
  • Use appropriate diagnostic criteria and structured assessment tools as part of a full clinical assessment, rather than relying on questionnaires alone.
  • Consider differential diagnoses, coexisting conditions, functional impairment and risk, and obtain specialist input or refer where a presentation falls outside your competence.
  • Explain assessment findings and treatment options clearly, supporting informed decisions and recording clinical reasoning.
  • Prepare clear diagnostic reports and communicate relevant findings to patients, GPs and other professionals with appropriate consent.
  • Private Prescribing and Medication Management
  • Independently initiate and optimise ADHD medication where clinically indicated, within your prescribing authority, demonstrated competence and the service's approved pathways.
  • Issue private prescriptions, including controlled-drug prescriptions where appropriate, in compliance with the requirements applying in England.
  • Complete and review required baseline assessments, physical health checks, contraindications, interactions and risk considerations before starting treatment.
  • Conduct titration and follow-up reviews, monitoring treatment response, adverse effects and relevant physical health measures.
  • Discuss benefits, risks and alternatives, obtain informed consent and document prescribing decisions.
  • Identify and elevate clinical deterioration, complex presentations, safeguarding concerns and suspected diversion or misuse.
  • Coordinate ongoing care and any proposed shared-care arrangements with the patient's GP; do not assume that shared care will be accepted.
  • Clinical Quality and Teamwork
  • Maintain accurate, timely clinical records, reports and prescribing documentation.
  • Participate in clinical supervision, multidisciplinary discussions, audit and service improvement.
  • Work closely with psychiatrists, other clinicians and patient care coordinators to deliver coordinated care.
  • Follow agreed safeguarding, consent, confidentiality, incident-reporting and escalation procedures.
  • Maintain professional registration, prescribing competence and appropriate indemnity for your work in private practice.

Essential Requirements

  • Current NMC registration as a registered nurse.
  • NMC-recorded nurse independent/supplementary prescribing qualification, commonly referred to as V300, with authority to practise as an independent prescriber.
  • Demonstrable specialist training and competence in adult ADHD assessment and diagnosis, including differential diagnosis, coexisting conditions and risk assessment.
  • Demonstrable competence in ADHD medication initiation, titration and ongoing monitoring, including controlled drugs within scope.
  • Ability and willingness to undertake independent private prescribing in England, with the required private controlled-drug prescriber arrangements in place before prescribing begins.
  • Strong clinical reasoning, communication, report-writing and record-keeping skills.
  • Willingness to work full time, based in our London office and delivering in-person appointments.

Desirable Experience

  • A registered mental health nursing (RMN) background, with experience assessing mental health presentations and coexisting conditions.
  • Relevant postgraduate study in mental health, counselling, psychotherapy or advanced clinical practice.
  • Experience in a specialist adult ADHD, neurodevelopmental or mental health service.
  • Experience prescribing in private practice and working with private controlled-drug prescription processes.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary teams and coordinating care with GPs.
  • Experience contributing to clinical audit, quality improvement or development of clinical pathways.
  • Prescribing Readiness

Before clinical practice begins, we will verify professional registration, the recorded prescribing qualification, ADHD assessment and prescribing competence, and appropriate indemnity.

Private controlled-drug prescribing arrangements, including the applicable prescriber identification and FP10PCD process, must be verified before private controlled-drug prescriptions are issued.

A prescribing qualification does not on its own establish competence to diagnose ADHD.

Clinical duties will be agreed through the service's credentialing and clinical governance processes.
