Adeptus Talent is recruiting for a Head of Avionics Engineering on behalf of a Wiltshire-based client operating within the Aerospace & Defence sector. The Head of Avionics Engineering leads the avionics and electrical engineering function, directing a high-performing team through the full product lifecycle from concept and TRL maturation to production handover. The role is accountable for technical delivery, resource management, process improvement, regulatory compliance, budgeting, scheduling, configuration management, and the documentation of electrical and avionics systems.

Requirements:

  • Degree, HND or HNC in an Engineering discipline.
  • Proven experience leading multiple concurrent product design and prototyping teams.
  • Experience working in rapid development and fail-fast environments.
  • Experience with ArduPilot and CubePilot hardware platforms.
  • Good understanding of flight dynamics, autopilot systems, and PID controller tuning.
  • Embedded C/C++ development and RTOS experience.
  • Proficiency with UNIX-based operating systems and Git version control.
  • Experience designing analogue and digital electronics, including signal conditioning and filter design.
  • Knowledge of ARM architecture and embedded system debugging tools.
  • Familiarity with communication protocols and interfaces (e.g. SPI, I2C, CAN, RS232/485, TCP/IP).
  • Ability to interpret schematics and datasheets, evaluate hardware designs, and resolve technical issues.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently on complex technical challenges.
  • Knowledge of CE requirements for electronic products.
  • Understanding of project management principles and frameworks.
  • Strong commitment to Health, Safety and Environmental standards.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Right to work in the UK and ability to obtain and maintain UK Security Vetting.
  • Chartered Engineer status or membership of a recognised engineering institution.
  • Experience with Python, PX4, React and JSON.
  • Knowledge of simulation environments such as MATLAB/Simulink and Gazebo.
