We are looking for a hands-on Design Engineer to join our clients growing engineering team and work across the full product development lifecycle - from concept and CAD through to prototyping, testing and manufacture.
This is a varied, practical role for someone who enjoys building things, solving problems and taking ownership of projects. You won't be spending all day behind a CAD screen; you'll have the opportunity to design, prototype, test, troubleshoot and work directly with suppliers and manufacturing partners.
What you'll be doing:
- Developing design concepts into practical, manufacturable products.
- Producing 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, BOMs and tolerance analyses.
- Building and testing prototypes, fixtures and bespoke test rigs.
- Supporting existing products and resolving mechanical/hardware issues.
- Working with machine shops, suppliers and external manufacturing partners.
- Supporting the transition of designs from prototype into production.
- Contributing to continuous product and process improvement.
What our client is looking for:
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design or a related discipline.
- 3+ years' practical engineering / product development experience.
- Strong 3D CAD skills, ideally SolidWorks.
- Experience producing and interpreting engineering drawings.
- Good understanding of manufacturing processes, particularly CNC machining, fabrication and plastics.
- A genuinely hands‑on approach to engineering and problem solving.
- Able to work independently, take ownership and adapt to changing priorities.
We particularly value engineers who enjoy making and fixing things. Practical experience through personal projects, cars, machinery, machining, electronics, model engineering or a home workshop is very welcome.
What we offer:
- 25 days' holiday, excluding bank holidays, increasing with service.
- 12 additional paid "Odd-Job Days" per year following probation.
- Company pension scheme.
- A collaborative, supportive working environment.
- Varied engineering projects with genuine responsibility and ownership.
