Adept:us is recruiting a Mechanical Design Engineer for a Bath-based client specialising in the design, development and manufacture of systems for the Defence sector.
The Opportunity: This is an excellent opportunity to join a technically challenging environment where you’ll work on high-integrity mechanical systems, supporting projects from concept design through to build, test, and production. You’ll collaborate closely with experienced Lead and Principal Engineers while having real scope to develop your technical capability and career.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Creating concept and detailed mechanical designs, supported by engineering calculations
- Producing and maintaining 3D CAD models and 2D technical drawings
- Generating and controlling engineering documentation within a configuration-controlled environment
- Supporting prototype build and test activities, including hands-on involvement
- Progressing designs through engineering change and improvement processes
- Working cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Quality, Operations, Projects, and Procurement
- Supporting customer visits and technical meetings
- Contributing to and, where appropriate, leading continuous improvement initiatives
What We’re Looking For:
- Degree (or equivalent experience) in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals
- Experience using 3D CAD software (SolidWorks or similar)
- Ability to clearly communicate technical designs and ideas
- Methodical approach with strong attention to detail
- A proactive, hands-on mindset and a genuine team player
- Willingness to travel internationally as required
- Eligible to obtain UK SC Security Clearance
Desirable Experience:
- Experience in a design or manufacturing environment
- Producing technical drawings and applying GD&T
- Exposure to hydraulics and high-pressure oil & gas sealing systems
- Experience with PDM systems
- Knowledge of design analysis and validation tools (e.g. FEA, FMECA, DFM, VAVE)
- Working towards Professional Registration (IEng/CEng)
