We are recruiting a Workshop Technician to join a small, hands‑on technical team based at a large testing and trial facility known as the Grain Barn, located at Milton Park, Abingdon. This is a practical, workshop‑based role supporting testing activities for clients in the energy, oil & gas, and equipment manufacturing sectors. The position is a replacement hire, and the company is open to candidates at different levels of experience, with training and support provided where required. Despite the original job title, prior NDT experience is not essential — training can be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting the setup, organisation, and running of testing trials
- Handling and preparing test samples (e.g. pipes with defects, stainless steel plates)
- Applying insulation to pipes and preparing components for testing
- Calibration and basic maintenance of testing and measurement equipment
- Carrying out mechanical and basic ultrasonic measurements (training provided)
- Assisting with movement, packing, storage, and logistics of test samples
- Maintaining a clean, organised, and safe workshop / test facility
- Supporting visiting engineers and clients during testing activities
Ideal Candidate Profile
We are open to candidates at different stages of their career, including junior, intermediate, or more experienced technicians. You may currently be working as, or have experience as:

- Engineering Technician
- Mechanical Technician
- Lab Technician (materials, mechanical, or testing environments)
- Manufacturing or Production Technician
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Experience working in a technical, workshop, laboratory, or industrial environment
- Practical and mechanically minded
- Comfortable using tools and handling physical components
- Strong attention to detail and good organisational skills
- Reliable, hands‑on, and willing to learn
Desirable (but not essential)
- Experience with testing, measurement, or calibration equipment
- Knowledge of health & safety procedures
- Exposure to energy, oil & gas, or manufacturing environments
- Any experience with NDT methods
