Mechanical Fitter (Days) – Staff – Manufacturing – Salary + Benefits – Essex
Job Purpose
* Responsible for carrying out plant maintenance, repairs and improvements to ensure the reliability and safe operation of plant and associated areas.
* Support colleagues across maintenance and plant operations as required to meet business needs.
Key Responsibilities
* Carry out mechanical maintenance, repairs and reactive breakdown work across the site.
* Complete planned preventative maintenance in accordance with the site's CMMS.
* Diagnose faults on conveyors, screws, presses, compressors, bucket elevators and other mechanical equipment.
* Inspect, test and maintain mechanical systems, equipment and components.
* Monitor plant operation, identify potential failures and take action to minimise operational interruptions.
* Maintain accurate maintenance records and daily activity logs, including follow-up actions and spare parts requirements.
* Work effectively alongside Mechanical, Instrumentation and Production/Process teams to provide an efficient maintenance service.
* Maintain and repair piping systems, including the correct specification and installation of gaskets, flanges and fixings.
* Install and maintain plastic pipework and associated equipment.
* Carry out drive system alignment using DTI and laser alignment equipment.
* Install, maintain and set various types of mechanical seals.
* Liaise with external service contractors and provide assistance while they are working on site.
* Complete Risk Assessments and Method Statements when required.
* Complete all required training and maintain relevant competencies.
* Provide shift cover and work additional hours during outages, turnarounds or periods of increased business demand.
* Carry out other reasonable duties as required by the Line Manager or Team Leader.
Qualifications & Experience
* City & Guilds Certificate / NVQ Level 3 or equivalent mechanical engineering qualification.
* BTEC ONC or equivalent qualification.
* Recognised mechanical engineering apprenticeship, ideally within a process industry such as Paper, Energy-from-Waste, Chemical, Pharmaceutical, Food, Power Generation, Oil & Gas or FMCG, or equivalent demonstrable experience.
* IOSH Working Safely qualification is desirable...
