We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer (Piping) with a minimum 3+ years' experience to support the delivery of mechanical pipework and associated mechanical services installations within the Life Sciences sector. More experienced candidates will also be considered as per the salary range. You will be responsible for producing high-quality design deliverables across concept, developed, and detailed design stages, while also supporting site installation and commissioning activities. This role offers the opportunity to work on technically engaging projects within a collaborative, multi-disciplinary engineering environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce concept, developed, and detailed mechanical designs for pipework and associated mechanical services installations
  • Develop and maintain 3D models, piping isometrics, and general arrangement (GA) drawings
  • Prepare bills of materials (BOMs), valve and equipment schedules, and technical specifications
  • Develop and maintain a design risk register in line with CDM regulations
  • Design and detail steelwork supports for pipework and mechanical equipment
  • Ensure designs comply with client design guides, industry standards, and approved procedures
  • Carry out site surveys to support design development and validate installation constraints
  • Provide technical support to site installation and commissioning activities
  • Coordinate with civil, electrical, and instrumentation engineers to ensure integrated design delivery

About You

  • HNC, HND, or Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
  • Minimum 3 years' experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer with piping design responsibility
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and AutoCAD Plant 3D
  • Experience producing piping isometrics, layouts, and fabrication-ready drawings
  • Understanding of mechanical services, pipework materials, and installation methods
  • Comfortable working both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
