3D Design Engineer (Inventor) with BIM Experience – Outside IR35 Contract – 6 Months Rolling – Carlisle (Office based) – Hourly rate

Our leading engineering client is seeking a 3D Design Engineer with BIM experience on a rolling contract basis. The successful candidate will be required to work on-site, utilising company systems and IT infrastructure (PC equipment will be provided). In addition to core design duties, this individual will take on the named responsibility of BIM Co-ordinator across projects, ensuring all digital deliverables comply with the project BIM Protocol and applicable standards (including ISO 19650). This is a dual-function role requiring strong technical design capability alongside proven BIM management experience.

Duties:

  • Produce detailed 3D models and engineering drawings using Autodesk Inventor.
  • Develop design deliverables to the required standard, in line with project programme and milestones.
  • Collaborate with the wider engineering team across mechanical, structural and process disciplines.
  • Ensure all design outputs comply with relevant standards, specifications and client requirements.
  • Participate in design reviews and incorporate feedback effectively.
  • Act as the named BIM Co-ordinator for the project, taking overall responsibility for BIM compliance and delivery.
  • Implement and maintain the project BIM Execution Plan (BEP) in accordance with the project BIM Protocol.
  • Ensure all project information is produced and managed in line with agreed information standards, naming conventions and scheduled data drops.
  • Co-ordinate federated models and carry out regular clash detection reviews using appropriate software (e.g. Navisworks).
  • Act as the primary point of contact for all BIM-related queries from internal teams, the client and third-party stakeholders.
  • Attend and contribute to BIM co-ordination meetings and design team meetings as required.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Proven experience as a 3D Design Engineer within a relevant industrial sector (predominately pressure system i.e. tanks, pipework with some structural experience).
  • Proficient in Autodesk Inventor (essential).
  • Demonstrable experience as a BIM Co-ordinator or Information Manager on a construction or engineering project (essential).
  • Thorough knowledge of BIM standards including ISO 19650 and project BIM Protocol requirements.
  • Experience with Common Data Environment (CDE) platforms and federated model management.
  • Familiarity with clash detection tools (e.g. Navisworks).
  • Experience working with systems or plant equipment (desirable).
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs and technical specifications.
  • Strong organisational, communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work on-site and integrate into an existing project team.
