Electrical Project Engineer (Fire Detection & Alarm System project) / 6 months / Outside IR35 / Pharma
Location: Newcastle Contract: 6 months Industry: Pharmaceutical / GMP Manufacturing
The Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced Project Engineer to lead the replacement of a 30-year-old fire detection and alarm system across a GMP manufacturing facility.
This is a project-focused role covering scope development, tendering, vendor selection and project delivery.
Pharma/GMP experience is beneficial but not essential.
We are open to engineers from other industrial, MEP, manufacturing or highly regulated environments with strong project engineering experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop the scope and specification for a modern addressable fire detection and alarm system.
- Survey existing site infrastructure and identify project requirements and constraints.
- Develop technical packages covering fire zoning, LV power supplies, cable routes, IT interfaces and installation requirements.
- Manage the tender process, including technical evaluation and bid analysis.
- Work with Procurement to support vendor selection and commercial negotiations.
- Review vendor designs and technical submissions.
- Prepare the capital submission and support the project through delivery.
- Provide regular project progress updates and manage technical risks/issues.
- Support the Facilities team with other electrical engineering projects where required.
About You
We are looking for an Electrical or Instrumentation Engineer with strong project engineering experience and a good understanding of:
- Engineering scopes, specifications and technical packages
- Tendering and vendor/contractor selection
- LV systems
- Modern fire detection and alarm systems
- Reviewing vendor designs and technical proposals
- Working with Procurement, EHS, Facilities and other stakeholders
Experience within pharma/GMP, manufacturing, chemical, petrochemical, energy or other regulated industries would be advantageous, but the key requirement is strong project engineering capability and relevant electrical/fire systems knowledge
