We are seeking an experienced HGV Operator to join our team at our chemical manufacturing facility. This is a site-based role operating exclusively on private land, therefore an in-date HGV licence is not required. However, proven experience driving HGV vehicles and carrying out shunting operations is essential. The successful candidate will work closely with Production Operators and Warehousing Operators to ensure the safe, efficient movement of vehicles, trailers, and materials across site. The role will also involve supporting and providing basic training to Operators in relevant vehicle movements and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Carry out safe and efficient movement and shunting of HGVs, trailers, and plant vehicles on private site
- Position vehicles and trailers for loading, unloading, and operational requirements
- Work closely with Production and Warehouse teams to support daily operations
- Assist with training Operators on basic vehicle movements and site transport procedures
- Conduct routine vehicle and equipment checks and report defects
- Ensure all movements comply with site safety rules, traffic management plans, and permit systems
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping in vehicle and shunting areas
- Support continuous improvement in site transport and logistics operations
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience driving HGV vehicles in an industrial or plant environment
- Experience with shunting operations
- Strong understanding of site safety and traffic management procedures
- Ability to work night shifts on a Monday to Thursday pattern
- Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
- A proactive and safety-focused attitude
Desirable (but not essential)
- Previous experience in a chemical, manufacturing, or COMAH-regulated environment
- Experience supporting or training other operators
- Forklift or other plant operation experience
