Our leading manufacturing client are seeking a skilled and safety-focused Mechanical Maintenance Technician to join their maintenance team within a continuous process manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out planned and reactive maintenance activities on mechanical equipment and mobile plant, ensuring machinery operates safely, efficiently, and reliably.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure safe working conditions and maintain high safety standards across all maintenance operations.
  • Strictly adhere to all Permit to Work systems and associated safety procedures, including Hot Work, Confined Space Entry, Working at Height, Lifting, Slinging, and Rigging requirements.
  • Take responsibility for personal safety and support coworkers in complying with company policies, procedures, and operational instructions.
  • Perform planned, preventative, and reactive maintenance on allocated mechanical equipment to a high standard and within agreed timeframes.
  • Carry out precision equipment setup and alignment in accordance with design specifications.
  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings and process P&IDs.
  • Diagnose faults, troubleshoot mechanical issues, and implement effective repairs to minimise downtime.
  • Maintain and repair mechanical equipment, hydraulic systems, and mobile plant machinery.
  • Support welding and fabrication activities where required.
  • Supervise subcontractors and ensure work is completed safely and to company standards.
  • Provide regular updates to supervisors regarding work progress, equipment condition, inspections, and identified defects.
  • Assist with identifying, sourcing, and organising spare parts when required.
  • Ensure tools, lifting equipment, and maintenance materials are maintained in good working order and used correctly.
  • Notify the Maintenance Manager of any issues relating to Food Safety or operational risk.
  • Participate in a rotating shift/rota system, including weekend coverage and additional overtime when required.
  • Undertake any additional duties appropriate to the role, skills, and experience level.
  • Attend and complete all required training to maintain competency and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Skills & Experience Required

  • HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
  • Recognised mechanical apprenticeship or equivalent experience.
  • Experience working within a continuous process or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical maintenance practices and equipment reliability.
  • Experience with hydraulic systems, mechanical fitting, and mobile plant maintenance.
  • Welding and fabrication experience is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge and experience of lifting, slinging, and rigging operations.
  • Strong fault-finding, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

Working Pattern

  • Rota-based schedule to support operational requirements.
  • Current rota includes working one weekend in five.
  • Flexibility to work overtime or additional hours as required.
