The Role
As a Maintenance Fitter, you will be responsible for carrying out high‑quality mechanical maintenance activities across plant equipment and machinery, ensuring reliability, efficiency, and compliance with all safety procedures. You will work as part of a rota system to support operational requirements, including one weekend in five and occasional out‑of‑hours support when required.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain safe working conditions and adhere to all maintenance safety standards
- Ensure strict compliance with Permit to Work systems and all associated safety procedures including:
- Hot Work
- Confined Space Entry
- Working at Height
- Lifting, Slinging & Rigging
- Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on mechanical equipment to a high standard
- Perform precision equipment set‑up and alignments to design specifications
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings and P&IDs
- Supervise subcontractors when required
- Report work progress, inspections, and defects to management
- Maintain tools and equipment in good working order
- Support food safety standards and report any related issues
- Participate in training and development activities
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the site
About You
- HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
- A recognised mechanical apprenticeship
- 3‑4+ years’ post‑apprenticeship experience as a Mechanical Technician/Fitter
- Experience within a continuous process industry environment
- Strong mechanical fitting and maintenance experience
- Knowledge of hydraulic systems
- Ability to read mechanical drawings and process P&IDs
- Experience with mobile plant maintenance
- Strong problem‑solving and fault‑finding skills
- Welding and fabrication experience (highly desirable)
- Slinging & lifting experience
- A proactive attitude toward Health & Safety
- Ability to work independently and within a small team
- Flexibility and willingness to support operational requirements
