We’re working with a manufacturing site seeking a Control Systems / Automation Engineer with 3–5+ years’ experience in a plant or industrial environment. The role is site-based and offers the chance to take real ownership of the control systems while contributing to ongoing projects and future site investment.
The role will involve:
- Managing and maintaining the on-site Siemens PLC systems
- Writing, modifying, and improving PLC code to support safe and efficient operations
- Supporting control systems projects and continuous improvement initiatives
- Ensuring control systems reliability and process stability across the site
The site operates with ATEX areas and SIL-regulated systems. Experience in these areas is beneficial but not essential, as training and development can be provided.

Main Responsibilities:
- Act as first point of contact for Electrical and Automation maintenance support.
- Provide rapid response to breakdowns, minimising plant and process downtime.
- Modify and maintain PLC programs (Siemens, TIA Portal, WinCC), ensuring program integrity is preserved.
- Support operations and projects across control systems, electrical infrastructure, and instrumentation.
- Diagnose faults and carry out effective repairs on production equipment.
- Collaborate with production teams to identify process limitations and recommend improvements.
- Execute planned preventative maintenance (PPM) activities on production lines.
- Apply structured problem-solving techniques (RCA, 5 Whys, predictive maintenance).
- Support continuous improvement initiatives including TPM, CBM, EEM, and lean principles.
- Assist with commissioning and installation of new machinery.
- Ensure engineering activities are accurately recorded on the CMMS, including time, parts, and costs.
- Support critical spares and plant inventory management.
- Contribute to knowledge transfer and basic skills training for operators.
- Comply fully with all Health & Safety, Food Safety, and site procedures.
- Undertake training and development identified through performance reviews.
- Carry out any other reasonable engineering-related duties.
