Shillito Group is recruiting on behalf of an international manufacturing business for an experienced
Permit Issuer to join their Engineering team on a
12-month fixed-term contract .
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with
Permit to Work (PTW) experience to play a key role in ensuring the safe delivery of maintenance activities and engineering projects across a complex, safety-critical manufacturing environment.

The Role
As Permit Issuer, you'll be responsible for authorising, coordinating and controlling Permit to Work activities across the Machine Shops, Work Rolls and Forge areas.
You'll work closely with Engineering, Production and Project teams to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently and in line with company procedures.
No two days will be the same, and you'll become a vital part of maintaining safe operations across one of the UK's leading engineering facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Authorise, issue and manage Permit to Work documentation for maintenance and project activities.
- Control equipment isolations and coordinate simultaneous permitted works.
- Ensure RAMS, atmospheric testing and rescue arrangements are in place before work begins.
- Monitor active work sites to ensure compliance with permit conditions.
- Maintain and audit the live Permit to Work system, ensuring permits are correctly closed, renewed or cancelled.
- Coordinate with Engineering, Production and Project teams to plan safe execution of work.
- Support engineering activities through spares procurement, receipting and inventory management.
- Lead permit coordination meetings and provide guidance and mentoring to colleagues where required.
About You
You’ll have experience working within a heavy industrial, manufacturing or engineering environment and be confident managing Permit to Work systems in safety-critical operations.
Essential
- Permit to Work trained with practical Permit to Work experience.
- Strong understanding of health & safety legislation and safe systems of work.
- Experience reviewing RAMS, confined space controls and atmospheric testing requirements.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills with the ability to coordinate multiple activities.
Desirable
- Engineering apprenticeship or engineering background.
- NEBOSH General Certificate or IOSH Managing Safely.
- Experience within steel manufacturing, heavy engineering or similar industrial environments.
