Shillito Executive Search is excited to be supporting an ambitious, growth lead accountancy firm in their search for an Audit Director to join their team. Together, we are searching for an experienced Audit Director (RI) to play a central role in the continued growth and strategic development of the audit practice. This is a senior leadership position within an ambitious, SME-focused accounting firm, offering genuine influence over client strategy, audit quality, and future expansion. Working closely with Partners and the Senior Leadership Team, the right Audit Director will bring together technical excellence, leadership capability, and commercial drive, helping to grow the audit portfolio and strengthen our market presence, particularly in London.
Responsibilities
- Act as Responsible Individual (RI) on a portfolio of statutory audit engagements
- Lead, oversee, and grow a portfolio of SME and mid-market audits, including group audits
- Drive audit quality and consistency, ensuring compliance with UK ISAs, ethical standards, and regulatory requirements
- Partner with Audit Partners on client strategy, risk management, and pricing decisions
- Play a key role in business development, including proposals, tenders, and networking
- Contribute to the firm's growth strategy, identifying new opportunities, sectors, and service lines
- Build and maintain strong, trusted client relationships
- Provide technical leadership across UK GAAP (primarily FRS 102) and IFRS audits
- Mentor and develop Audit Managers and senior team members, strengthening the leadership pipeline
- Lead and support FRC / RSB inspections and internal quality reviews
- Act as a senior ambassador for the firm, particularly in the London market
Qualifications
- ACA / ACCA qualifications with Responsible Individual (RI) status
- Significant UK audit experience, ideally within an SME, mid-market, or growth-focused firm
- Strong technical knowledge of UK GAAP and IFRS
- A proven ability to balance audit quality with commercial objectives
- Comfortability operating at senior leadership level, working closely with Partners
- An entrepreneurial mindset with a desire to build, grow, and shape an audit practice
- The ability to work in a hybrid model with regular travel to London
