Position Overview: The Senior Lab Technician is responsible for managing the daily operations of the laboratory ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant testing and analysis of materials. The role includes supervising the Junior Lab Technician, maintaining equipment, ensuring quality control, and liaising with internal and external stakeholders. The job holder will do all tasks within his/her level of skill and ability.
Responsibilities (Essential Job Functions):
- Supervise and mentor Junior Lab Technician
- Manage daily lab operations and assist with logistics in receiving materials
- Ensure adherence to HSE policies and industry regulatory standards (e.g. COSHH)
- Conduct Quality Assurance checks and resolve issues
- Oversee calibration and maintenance of equipment
- Supervise and perform sample testing and analysis
- Communicate results and provide technical advice to internal and external stakeholders
- Laboratory testing procedures and safety regulations
- Awareness of site security, hygiene PPE requirements
- Awareness of site certification i.e. ISO Certificates and standards
- Complying to site rules
Requirements, Experience, Education (Knowledge, Skills Abilities):
- Attention to detail
- Strong understanding of Health and Safety regulations (e.g., Health Safety at Work Act)
- Degree in Chemistry or related scientific discipline (i.e., Physical Chemistry)
- Minimum 3 years' lab experience, 1 year in a supervisory role (desired)
- Familiarity with lab testing procedures and standards
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Awareness of COSHH
- Awareness of Quality systems (e.g., ISO, ASTM)
