Our client is a key manufacturing hub, operating a blend of CNC machining, woodworking, fabrication, and assembly processes. They are in an exciting phase of operational development and are seeking a strong, hands-on Operations Manager to drive performance, efficiency, and team leadership across several critical departments.
Role Purpose: The Operations Manager will take full operational responsibility for Stores, the Machine Shop, the Wood Shop, and the Buying & Purchasing function. This role ensures that materials, components, and production processes flow efficiently, safely, and in line with customer demand and compliance standards. You will lead departmental managers, develop robust processes, and ensure that the Doncaster site operates with discipline, accuracy, and continuous improvement at its core.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational Leadership
- Provide day-to-day leadership across Stores, Machine Shop, Wood Shop, and Purchasing.
- Ensure all departments operate to agreed KPIs, production schedules, and quality standards.
- Drive a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Work closely with Production, Engineering, and Quality teams to ensure seamless workflow.
- Stores & Inventory Management
- Oversee the Stores Manager and ensure accurate stock control, material availability, and efficient goods in/goods out processes.
- Implement and maintain robust inventory systems, stock accuracy checks, and material traceability.
- Reduce stock discrepancies, improve storage layout, and optimise material flow to production.
- Machine Shop & Wood Shop Oversight
- Lead the Machine Shop & Wood Shop Manager to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality machining and woodworking operations.
- Ensure CNC, woodworking, and fabrication equipment is maintained, utilised effectively, and operated by competent staff.
- Support capacity planning, workflow scheduling, and skills development within both shops.
- Purchasing & Supplier Management
- Manage the Buying Manager and purchasing team to ensure timely procurement of materials, components, and subcontract services.
- Develop supplier relationships, negotiate pricing, and ensure continuity of supply.
- Implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising quality or compliance.
- Ensure purchasing aligns with production forecasts and customer requirements.
- Compliance & Quality
- Ensure all operations adhere to ISO standards, VCA Type Approval requirements, and internal quality procedures.
- Support audits, documentation control, and corrective actions.
- Promote a safe working environment and ensure compliance with H&S legislation.
- Continuous Improvement
- Identify and implement process improvements across all operational areas.
- Introduce lean manufacturing principles where appropriate.
- Lead cross-functional improvement projects to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and improve lead times.
